Five Screenshots.... Each High Quality AND Digital - No they're not scans from a magazine or pictures taken via a Digital Camera, they're screenshots sent by Rockstar to various game sites, and yes, they show the HUD in full Hiqh-Quality glory.

How can five screenshots make me 1000% more excited than I already am?

Haha, I know what you mean. I think my excitement is overly saturated already.

I don't think I can wait this long! Well, it's not as bad as waiting for November for Gears 2, or is it?

Shame the graphics are so toned down so much in multiplayer (seen at a couple of the sites). Looks great, though. Really liking the simplicity of the HUD.

Most, if not all games have toned down gfx online, especially ones as big as GTA.

Not really. It shouldn't be that way. Graphics are all locally tapped from each persons individual machine. The only thing being sent over those internet cables is movement/position/action information between the player and the environment. Textures and models are all locally drawn, no graphics files are being sent over the internet so there's no reason to degrade the visuals.

The only reason to degrade the visuals is when you're running two instances of the same game split-screen. Like for instance, a recent example, look at Vegas 2. It doesn't look too jaw dropping to begin with but in split-screen it looks down right terrible. The texture resolution is abysmal.

They are sending graphics files, there is damage and building damage in GTA IV online, thats why it doesn't look as crisp because the game is constantly being updated between the 16 players within the game, which wall is blown out, where bullet holes are, which car has been blown up, where a dead pedstrian will be lying etc... This is not as simple as Unreal Tournament 3 for instance, where the game world is populated with static scenary that is the same for all players, and no unpredictable models, GTA has lots of unpredictability i mean you cannot control pedestrians and you cannot control what their cars do in your online game, there is a hell of a lot of data transfer going on to make GTA IV work online.

Damage is only a textual indicator. The damage textures are loaded locally. It's akin to an MMO, particularly instances where there are large numbers of online players.

Negative existenz. All of those damage things are local. The only thing being sent over the internet is information about that damage, like location and how it's going to affect handling of the car. The damage visually is still all local.

Same with bulletholes. That's a good example actually. Basically what's happening is the internet is telling you, hey xbox360, put a bullethole decal here, here and here. That's it. It's not actually sending the bullethole decal.

Saints Row had the exact same graphics, including your customised character.

If toned down graphics makes for less lag, then I'm all for it.

Gorgeous HUD though, I love it.

Digging the HUD. Less clutter, and I like the new icons for the weapons.
