A bunch of new Silent Hill: Homecoming screenshots have recently been released, and we now have a glimpse at some of the new human (and not-so-human) characters that will appear.

Though the comments at the source are something to take notice of... Many commentors believe that the graphics are looking poorer than they did when the game was originally announced, and that they aren't up to the PS3's usual standards.

In fact, Kotaku even deemed the screenshots an "ugly mess" in comparison to the "stunning" screenshots of the PS3 survival-horror Siren: New Translation.

Take a look at the screens to see if you agree or not.

With a brand new name to replace its former numbered name, Silent Hill: Homecoming also has brand new screenshots as well. Along with the requisite walking through the fog and creepy monster shots, these screens also feature some of the people that you meet when you're stalking down the street.

Well, it does look below par, but in what stage of production is Silent Hill Homecoming in exactly? If we're seeing just a few months of production, I see nothing wrong with the quality.

It's actually been in production since 2004.

But that's not what the comments ere talking about ... They're talking about the decline in graphics since the game was revealed. Me and jmac were talking about the character changes in another SH5 article, but by the looks of it, the entire appearance of the game has been changed. (unless the more recent batches of screenshots are just dodgy ones).
But this last bunch is definitely nowhere as detailed or generally "nice to look at" as some of the screens that were shown last year.
Heck, some of the new ones look almost like PS2 graphics ... especially when you compare them to screenshots from other survival horrors for PS3, namely RE5 and Siren:NT.

That doesn't mean they've actually been working on the engine or anything in 2004. Not at all. They probably didn't even start to get into in-game assets until 2006 at the earliest and I'm pretty sure they've created their own engine.

All that being said, Silent Hill 5 looks fine to me.

They look fine to me. o_0. I just hope that it has good gameplay. That quality and good gameplay should be good enough for me...

Personally i thought they were pretty good, people were complaining but i don't have any complaints. As long as the storyline is good aswell as gameplay being good then i'll settle for it.

Ugly, are you serious? Are these people on dugs? They look great to me. Better than the previous one.

That's compared to Siren though...in which, while they're not a mess...they're certainly not up to par.

    They look fine to me.

Besides, it's not all about the graphics. The game should deliver, and that is a whole 'nother area entirely.

i love how when ANY nintendo title has lame ass 14-polygon-model graphics.. its cute, and " O THTS JUS NEN10DO ^____^ "
but when a ps3/360 has somewhat subpar graphics, it makes headlines and gets trashed and called an 'ugly mess'

People really think they look good?
Tbh, it looks like shit pulled off a PS2 game.
Heck, Maria from SH2 had more detail than that blonde woman in the SH5 screen.
