Silent Hill: Homecoming
Speaking of psychological-terror, the latest in the foggy town series will continue to make you feel uncomfortable when playing. And we assure you that it won’t be in that “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” way, but probably more like “my character might turn out to be a child murderer and this town is a metaphor for my own personal Hell.” The franchise’s proper fifth installment centers on a war veteran returning home and coming to terms with things.

Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse
Fatal Frame is probably one of the scariest games we’ve ever played, partly because we spend most of the time creeping around corners in first-person camera mode. It’s a little like the end of Silence of the Lambs sans lotion on the skin. Even though we know a ghost will pop into view at any moment, the anticipation still gives us the willies.

Left 4 Dead
So say you’ve just barely squeaked by being mauled to death by hundreds of the undead. The Director will give you a brief respite to heal and lure you into a false sense of security before spewing more ghouls on your ass. Added bonus: Multiplayer Versus mode enables the ability to play as one of the “Boss” Zombies, including the acid-spewing Boomer and the tongue-lynching Smoker.
