    Space Stage loses casual players

Why is that something to avoid the game? In fact its something that is good as it provides at least some complexity, We don't want all games to be like wii sports or brain training, do we?

I think its a reason because the game is meant to be FOR casual players. Sort of like the wii, it's meant to be for non-gamers more than anything and the games on the system show that, however there are some gamers which have the console for the games as well. But ofcourse the Non-gamers far outweighs the Gamers with the Wii.

Everyone seems to think it's horrible, but the customization is really drawing me to it.

"Pirates get to play the game hassle-free"

    So true

I don't like the game too much. It was okay till I got to the space stage. It gets too repetitive.

Dunno what exactly Spore is like, but that game made me want to get it.
