Xbox 360 outsold PS3 in Japan in September, Full Hardware Sales List

Twisted | October 04, 2008 | Top List | Playstation 3 Wii
In Japan, the Xbox 360 outsold the Playstation 3 in September 08, probably because of the new JRPGs hitting the region. The 360 sold 53,547 units, while the PS3 sold 33,071. The Wii however, outsold both of them combined, at 109,548 units. The DS sold more than double than the PSP, at 234,477 to 109,274.
Microsoft Corp's Xbox 360 outsold Sony's PlayStation 3 in Japan in September, beating the rival machine in monthly unit sales for the first time in Sony's home market, a game magazine publisher said.

Strong sales growth came after Microsoft cut prices for its game console last month.

Microsoft sold 53,547 units of the Xbox 360 in the four weeks to September 28, compared with 33,071 units of the PS3, data from Enterbrain showed on Friday.

as a person who owns a ps3 i find this as good news. For sony to lose on its own turf is pretty bad so hopefully they step up their game.

It's probably just because of Tales of Vesperia which, in my opinion, is a pretty awesome game. It'll go back down to normal pretty soon.

Odd considering the 360 is pumping out more JRPGs, but whatever.

I'm not sure that would be true.Sony seem to be to naive.

Though I love my PS3, I would say this is a poor generation on Sony's part.

Yeah Tales of Versperia is the reason behind it, apparently the Japanese went nuts over it.

      What's Tales of Vesperis?

Wasn't surprised, the Xbox 360 is beating the PS3 left, right and centre. I still want a PS3, though!!!

No, keep up with the news man. The PS3 has been beating the 360 in month to month sales since January 08. That is hardly beating the PS3 "left, right, and center". That is why the sales gap has gone from 9 million to barely 5 million.

It's a very anime based RPG, which of course are the two things the Japanese can't live without.

And I would hardly say the 360 is outselling the PS3 everywhere. The PS3 dominates Europe and Japan more often than the 360.

As it's been mentioned before, the PS3 has been outselling 360 every month until now. So I agree, it's not as if the 360 is dominating.

Not completely, I believe march and September the 360 had outsold the PS3. Not 100% sure though.

But I guess this is fat slap in the face to people who say "Brining JRPGS out on 360 wont work with Japan." Well the results are in your face, now what are you going to say?

But its not like there going to kick sony/Nintendo off Japan's throne any time soon, there just breaking into the market.

Two months out of 12 in a year; oh yeah, progress I kid.

Well, these aren't exactly "results". One game spurred some sales, but it's not springboarding them into flat-out japanese success.

And as mentioned, this is hardly the end of the PS3 in Japan. Just wait until Valkyria Chronicles and White Knight Chronicles hit the market; I'm sure we'll see some Japanese love out of those .

Perhaps, but I don't think the PS3 is going to lose again this year. And no it was September and June Slumpy. Either way 2 times is hardly impressive, especially since this latest one is only on one region.

So a whole corporation is dying because of a single product, when they have their hands in dozens of different markets? Not only that but according to you the 360 outselling the PS3 for one month in one country is a indication that their whole empire is going down. Very big leap of logic there

Talking to a lot of my friends and hearing here and there, I don't see a lot of people have PS3s but a lot of people have 360s. I don't think that the PS3 will ever outsold the 360.

Since when was grammar used as a basis to judge someone's reliability?

        I could say

        "te sky is blu!"

Its poorly written but its still fact. I'm not saying he's right, I'm just saying that judging his reliability by his grammar isn't really a solid argument.

Yes. I'm trying to say is, i respect sony for trying to make video game products. The PS2 did a very good job. BUT, the thing was that the PS2 was a more so gaming console. The PS3 Is more so for multimedia. Sure, there are good games coming out, but everyone though MGS4 would increase the sales by a longshot?
    Not Really.
So, I think it'd be better off with Siny sticking to their general electronics. They could revolutionize multimedia if they focused more on that.
    Microsoft is doing great.
But ii, i mean, WOW. Nintendo is stealing da fans.
I know Japan loves wii, but still Japan counts.
Even so, Wii's games have the BEST gameplay.
Maybe even best Multiplayer, if it does well.
But PS3 Will always have the best graphics, 4EVAH!
    Who's with me on this?

That has to be one of the most ridiculous and fanboyish comments I ever read. Seriously, the PS3 will catch up to the 360, in fact this year alone is proving that fact. They have outsold the 360 world wide in 8 out of the 10 months so far cause of games. Now that may not sound alot to you, but it means the gap is severely closing to mere 5 million.

And "Even so, Wii's games have the BEST gameplay." statement is ridiculous as well. The Wii doesn't have the BEST gameplay, they have a different type of gameplay which is being forced to every Nintendo fan, and making them flail their arms like a damn bird.

Sorry you make no points. Also protip, Japan loves the PS3 as well.

Actually it did. The week it released the PS3 actually outsold the Wii. Yes it was only one week. Still that was something that the 360 has never been able to do. Neither of tem have beat the Wii in month to month sales ever. And it's not like one game is going to carry the console forever. If the PS3 could release more games like it then we could really have something.

Halo seems to be doing a fine job of that, though, isn't it?

But where people are constantly getting off saying the PS3 will never sell anything is just ridiculous. The PS3 has seen one of the biggest turnarounds I've ever witnessed, yet people insist on calling it down all the time.

Doesn't help when people claim the console is doing bad and isn't able to compete against the 360. You've done that yourself in the past. I've mistakenly done that with a game.
