In this list Old-Wizard.com describes the top 10 reasons why they think new video games should all be 2D rather than 3D. Claiming that the 8 and 16 bit eras were the golden age of gaming.

With modern games like Halo and the Resident Evils, the video game world has become obsessed with the first person 3D format where you’re “virtually” mimicking your own real life movements. In a modern game like GTA, you’re given a 3D format where you’re able to move in all directions towards another point. What are all these games missing? In this article, we’ll discuss the fact that what’s missing from these games is mainly due to the 3D format of modern video games. With this in mind, we’ll see how the video game world needs to go back to 2D gaming to capture its lost greatness from the 8 and 16-bit era’s. The problems started happening at the 32-bit era. It’s time to move forward by taking a couple steps back.

    This guy is hilariously stupid.

This guy is an idiot. A game doesn't automatically suck because it's in 3D. Guys like him need to embrace change.

This guy needs to learn about videogames urgently, or his brain might collapse with so much nonsense.

Come ooon, more space for creativity in 2D?

God damn, that's a stupid article. Seriously, just look at these quotes:

    quote
How bored did you get playing Mario 64? You were walkingand walking some more in the same direction
Because in 2D, you had alot of choices in your direction, right? You were either going left or right constantly, and that is a bad thing.

    quote
    More linear
    Again, that's a bad thing.

I could continue, but you get the point.

You could also explain why it's a bad thing.

Linearity restricts the player from doing/going what they want, and thus is a bad thing.

No its not a bad thing, theres nothing wrong with linearity in games. You may personally not like it, but theres nothing wrong with it.

When I clicked on this I just knew that it was from Old-Wizard.

    Good job guys.

While I agree with almost all of their points, I think that developers just wouldn't be able to stay in 2D forever. If they wanted to get more creative, they'd have to expand to use new concepts

Im a lover of 2D games so Im instantly attached to this artile.
Some of his points are valid I guess. Nothing wrong or "lesser" about 3D. Change is sometimes a better thing.

how many of you would like to see a new 2D metroid? a new 2D mario? (yeah DS was ok, but I want one on the Wii).

Anyone play Mega Man 9? That game was great.

I love 2d games, but one of the great things about games is that theres such a variety to them. To limit all games to 2d is *bleep*. We need both 2d and 3d games in order to devulge in diffrent artistic style that can only be accomplished in a 2d or 3d game. Its like saying, all music should be rock music, thats not fair to people who prefer rap, classical, country, ect.

What an annoying article.I wanted to smack some sense into the idiot.

He basically complains that he doesn't want realism in games, yet he complains about turning around in a game like RE not being realistic.

I'm just glad not every gamer thinks like this idiot.

2D games may still be awesome but who the hell would want all games to be 2D.

I would love if there were more 2D Mario's and Metroid's as I don't like them games in 3D.

Broken Sword, one of my favourite adventure series of all time, was crippled in the move to 3D.

So It depends. What we need, is a MIX of the two.

It’s with combining the simplicity of the 2D space movement and the complexity possible within this space, that great games were made.
I can think of a few 3D games that are great, Resistance: Fall of Man, MGS4, Halo 3, God of War, Gears of War, Shadow of the Colossus, MGS1, Morrowind, Oblivion, Final Fantasy...

Screw 3D AND 2D! All the real hardcore gamers know 1D games are where it's at.... you can't SEE find them unless you are cool enough.

2D or 3D, it does not matter. Any gamer knows that Game=Fun, no matter the graphics. I love playng Street fighter2 turbo on the SNES, but i also love to play Unreal Tournament(all of them), or Halo(1 and 2). It depends on your preferences really.
