Top 5 Zelda Games

In this list, Old-Wizard.com describes what they think were the top five games from the popular Nintendo series, the Legend of Zelda. They have one surprising omission, and one surprising choice as well.

Has there ever been a better video game series than the Zelda video game series? Maybe the Super Mario, Castlevania, Metroid and Mega Man series, but after those, Zelda has no competition. The single factor that contributes towards a great gaming series is the amount of great games in the series. The same cannot be said for the Double Dragon series, for example, where it fell drastically in quality after Double Dragon 2. In the Zelda series though, the games seemed to get better with each subsequent addition. This is rare for a video game series, and the Zelda series has been able to accomplish this with flying colors. Controversy will be heard in the sequencing of this list, but that only goes to show how strong each game in the series was.

    I love A Link to the Past (first Zelda game played), but how can they leave out OoT?

    In my opinion, that list is totally stupid. Ocarina of Time may be a tad overrated, but it definitely is top 5 potential.

    Really? I mean, not only was Ocarina of Time the best Zelda game ever, it is quite possibly one of the best games ever, period, especially for its time. I can definitely see A Link to the Past being second only to it, but come on. Twilight Princess is number three; it didn't even have magic and definitely wasn't as ground breaking as OoT.

    I am glad they left out Ocarina. Don't get me wrong, great game, but overrated as hell, Link to the Past is without a doubt the best Zelda, it pretty much set the base of what the Zelda series would be. (3 initial easy dungeons to get the master sword and then 7-8 rea; dungeons) This is probably the best Old Wizard article, they showed some balls, especially for adding Zelda 2, that game is so underappreciated.

      Ocarina is a little overrated probably, but I do think at least mostly, it gets all the attention for good reason. It's easy to say it's overrated..but if you go back and play it you'll probably remember why we all laud it..

        I did play it again, last year, and I already said it was a great game, but its very overrated. Its mostly because for most people it was their first Zelda game. I also played Link to the Past recently aswell, and so I can still say that I think LTTP is the superior game.

          Fair enough, it was my first Zelda and now I am a Master Sword replica owning fanatic. That said the others I have played have been right up there with it. Maybe not Twilight Princess, savage game but something felt missing.

    I expected a couple of key game to be on that list. One of which, is not there. Wheres Ocarina of Time? Was that not said to be the best Zelda game of all time plenty of time before?

    yar. it's blatantly obvious that they avoided ocarina of time on purpose. everyone knows its one of the best zelda titles. zelda 2 (nes) was absolutely horrible. links awakening was hella lame.

    wind waker was the best imo, because of its innovation and break from the traditional zelda mold in almost every way possible.

      Yeah! Where's Wind Waker? That game is awesome! It should be the top 5 but, I do suppose this is Old Wizard so I should be used to this sort of thing by now.
      I found Zelda 2 creepy and a lot bit disturbing!
      I do agree with Link to the Past being #1. That is my first and favorite zelda.

    No OoT? That's a joke. Maybe not the best, but it should certainly be up there.

    Also, they seem to have contradicted themselves. In their top 100 games list, LTTP is at #1, Zelda 1 at #12, and OoT at #17, with none of the other Zeldas in between. Going by that then, shouldn't OoT should be number 3 on this list?

      Haha nice catch there. I mean, maybe if the source seemed worth anything I would suggest that they judged the list as Zelda games, and they considered that to be different than judging them as games in general. But that's a big maybe.

      Seriously, though, Zelda 2? Link's Awakening was somewhat sorry as far as Zelda standards, too, though it was still fun. But Zelda 2? Come on, now. I still can't get over that. Zelda 2 was like an attempt to force Zelda and Castlevania into forming an illegitimate bastard child, but it came out *bleep*.

    This list sucks, where are the CDi zelda games??

    I mean come on those games ruled!

    Not even OOT can compare to the CDi zelda games.
