Quite the comprehensive top list! Check out this selection of the top twenty five first levels of video games ever! All the favourites are in there, Super Metroid taking first place followed by Bioshock and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Each game in the list has a picture and description of the first level to show why it's so good.

    I agree with Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction being there. I played that level in a shop and it was pure awesome. It introduces so much game aspects subtly, and is really fun.

    Little Big Planet, I loved the first level in that, but I also loved the whole first bit of Assassin's Creed, but that isn't there.

    Castlevani SotN had very good levels for a PS1 game.

    Super Mario 64's first level is my favorite. I love all the little secrets and stuff it has in it.

    Not a bad list tbh. Although I would have wanted a few different games on there, but still good.

      Since I don't see gears 2, I assume You're talking about God of War. And no God of War 2 blown the first out of the water. It pains to me to see how others who claim the first is better then the second which is horrible not true.

    Any list with Bioshock wins.

    I do agree with many on this list though. Its very likened to my experiences.

    That was a pretty good list. Haven't played all the games, but reading about them made me more than a little interested in some of them.

    Aye, SM64's first level was awesome. Sorta surprised to see The Force Unleashed on there. I mean, yeah, you get to use Darth Vader, but your powers are very limited compared do what you can do later on in the game with Starkiller, he moves so sluggishly it starts to annoy you, and all you do in that level is simply kill Wookies over and over. I, for one, didn't like that level at all.

      The first level with Darth Vader his powers are all maxed out, far greater then starkiller. So I have no clue what you're talking about.

    Woah, God of War and God of War 2 are up there. I reckon God of War Chains of Olympus had a fantastic first level, there's a reason it was used for the demo.
