The popular series Mario Karts isn't just about the racing. This blog covers the element of items, well the annoying items anyway. Read on to find out about what makes the most annoying items to grace Mario Karts so annoying!

Guess what ramps up the difficulty of any kart race? Ink sprayed into your flippin' eyes. Thanks, Blooper. Ever since those water levels of Super Mario Bros. we have really hated you and your unpredictable swimming stroke, flopping all around like you were caught on an invisible fishing line. And don't get us started on the knocked-up Bloopers that spit out little babies. Just keep your nasty ink off of the race track and out of our faces.

For as much as we appreciate the nearly impenetrable rotating shield these red shells afford, we never get to see them way up where the extremely talented racers rank. So we're going to piss and moan about them instead. The real irksome quality of this item is not the homing projectile it gives our aim-challenged opponents, but the THREE homing projectiles it gives them. GAH.

This is a big, frowning banana. It's menacing characteristics are self-explanatory.

BLUE SHELL! BLUE SHELL! BLUE SHELL!
It was always a fairly annoying item, but it became especially aggravating in Mario Kart Wii. It doesn't matter how skilled you are at racing, if one of your opponents gets lucky with that item, you'll be thrown back a few places just like that. >_>

While I can agree with some of the items on this list, the writer is extremely arrogant. He assumes anyone who ever gets any item on the list is a terrible Mario Kart player, then bitches about how the blue shell will send you back many places. So if one gets hit by a blue shell, or even a bullet bill, can't move while other players pass him, then happens to get a star from an item box, that makes the player bad?

The bloopers spraying ink in your face aren't such a problem for me, but Blue Shell's on Hard mode = ead:

I agree, I've never found the ink a problem. It just seems to be another minor obstacle, nothing substantially bothering.

Blue shell is certainly the most annoying, especially when you are almost at the finish line when it hits and you can't pick up enough speed to win after it .Bloopers, however, are not very annoying if you ask me.

Yeah same here, like I said if it's a tougher difficulty than Easy or Medium then a Blue Shell pretty much has me beat and hopeless.

And yeah bloopers aren't so annoying, if you've played for quite a while you should be able to judge where your kart is perfectly fine. =)

Blue shells drive me nuts, but theres nothing worse than being hit with a thunderbolt when in midair, falling to your doom.

As for the rest of them...eh

blue shells are the reason i havent played mario kart wii since basically i got it on launch day.
i played all 150cc (because i'm that good and have 3stars on every race on MK:DS)
i would have gotten 3 stars on every race on 150cc were it not for once i get into 1st place, i get bombarded with blue shells.
its so annoying, im always about to pass the finish line, miles ahead of everyone for the last lap, and BOOM! blue shell, slowly move closer to the finish line..BOOM! 2 blue shells bomb me one after another. i end up finishing the race 6th place -_-

I always found those darn Lightning bolts annoying ">>
You're just cruising along in first place, minding your own buisness, then BAM you and everyone else is tiny. Blue shells too

Everyone being turned tiny works out fairly well though, since everyone is slowed (except the user) and not just yourself.

The lightning bolts aren't too bad. Unless you are in mid-air when they strike.

Those boxes that looked like item boxes but were actually fakes always got me. Drat.

No, I <3 Mario Kart. But the Wii version has so much item rapeage in it, skill in that game is nonexistant.

The POW block and the blue shell were VERY annoying in Mariokart wii on 150cc. Every 5 seconds I'd get hit by a POW block, Blue shell, or thunder...

As annoying as many of those items can be, the writer came off as a whiny and arrogant bitch who thought everyone who used those items were inferior to him. The Mario Kart games are definitely not for him.

I played Mario Kart 64 and those Bananas were really annoying, i'd always be right behind someone and about to overtake them, then they would drop a damn banana >

      Dark Arcanine Dec 15, 08
Mario Kart 64 allowed you to press the B button and stop yourself slipping from a banana so I never found them a problem.

Me and my brother are always arguing about whether it actually takes any serious degree of skill to win, or whether it really is mostly down to luck. I tend to believe luck.

      Dark Arcanine Dec 15, 08
The items create the element of luck, along with small bits of luck here and there like anything. Driving, item usage and decision making in general, however, take skill. For example I played Mario Kart DS every night for a month and I went from losing over Wi-Fi to winning all my races. That's even against those Japanese racers.

There is always going to be a certain level of skill no matter what the game, but I think in combat racers like Mario Kart luck dominates skill. The weapons are getting easier and easier to use. Lightning, blue shells and bullet bills can all not be dodged, which kind of means anyone who gets those items consistantly will likely win.

At least it's not CoD4, where the basic gun can kill your enemy with one burst... now that just takes no skill, given all the silly skills and upgrades it offers as well.

Most of these items take some skill, well, except for those that only need you to press a button >.>

Then again, items are meant to be annoying.

      Dark Arcanine Dec 16, 08
You mean like how they all just take pressing a button? xD Nah I get it, some take aiming or strategic positioning while others are just "BLAM".

The blue shells ten to take the whatsit. Especially when you are seconds away from victory and you get hit.

    Bananas aswell.
