I'm not a fan of top lists, but here's one from Neoseeker featured in our Sunday Special. Following all the apparent PlayStation Home hate spreading across gaming communities, unchecked.

What's the big deal? Home isn't so bad, is it? We certainly don't think so. It's not technically a top list, but it is a list.

It didn't seem like the usual fanboy fight. Sure, it may have started with the usual suspects, but then the hate evolved into a bizarre movement, with numerous independent gaming sites and blogs posting editorials on why Home is a failure, right under those "Nintendo hates hardcore gamer" articles.

I'm not a big PS3 fan, though I'm not really against the console either, and my bad relationship with Sony electronics (PlayStation 1 and 2 excluded) had no bearing on my decision to purchase an Xbox 360 two years ago (price did). That being said, I see no reason for the gaming community to be layering on the hate like they currently are. That's not to say all the anti-Home articles are to be taken seriously; most are probably supposed to be worth little more than a good laugh, but such articles are still inspired by the current trend of Home-bashing.

But why? The reasons are beyond me, though the only reoccuring logic here appears to be sheer boredom, which is to say Home is boring in its current state. Well, enough is enough, and you're going to read some reasons why you shouldn't hate Home -- five, to be exact.

I've been a little closeminded of Playstation Home in the past. Yeh its dull and boring. But it has arguably limitless potential and over time, It has the opportunity to grow into a rich community service for everyone to enjoy. Assosiating yourself with Home is more of an investment, and hopefully, it will pay off.

Besides, its minimum usage is free, so theres no denying the value and appeal this service has. And as the article points out, Its in BETA. I look forward to its development.

Its fantastic to see Sony taking a chance on this service rather than sticking to a simplistic Avatar service. Sure, they work, but it isn't pushing the services a console can offer to gamers.

I'm just waiting for all the cool features they keep advertising it will have. 'Cause as it is, I know they're skimping out on us.

And WHY would they want to do that?

As far as I know, they keep advertising the same things over and over except tiny new things on every single ad they make. I don't think They have any brains......

RCG I have 3 words to say to you for that top list news; I love you!. Not in a creepy way, maybe a Neoseeker friend way. But seriously, it's about time someone came out besides the usuals and set the record straight. We may not always agree, but I will say there is few things we do agree on.

And just to point out something:

    quote
    4. Home is NOT a game, as point No. 3 implied. It's a free social networking service, so you could say that it's what users make of it. Despite Sony's claims of Home being a system seller, most would agree that buying a PlayStation 3 solely for Home would be a terrible waste. Sure, you can bowl, mess around in the virtual arcade, or just run around bleeping with other people, but it's a long way from being an actual game. Sony is not trying to compete with The Sims or Second Life, guys, so come off it already.
This is what Jack Buser(director of Home) was talking about when he mention the word Open Beta. He stated the term open beta to him reminds him that it's open to grow from the community and users standpoint. And they want the users to speak to them on the Playstation forums about what they'd like within the service. It's literally made up so the users can shape it into what they want. Not 100% freedome like Second Life, mind you, but enough. I'm just waiting for the update of Virtual Trophy room and the such.

Very well put, and I thoroughly agree with the article. I think its just cool for people to bash Home now, most people who complain here haven't even experienced it.

LOL sounds like I did you a favor, Final Blade. Glad you liked it. I never thought I'd be writing an editorial vouching for Sony, but I really believe people are ripping Home apart for all the wrong reasons. They seem to forget that it's still open beta, ffs!

One thing that does make it great is the fact that it's free. It's a great addition to allow PS3 users a bigger element than just gaming.

People don't hate Home, they just haven't had time to witness it's wonders yet.

I like Home. The only problem I have is the number of guys that act like pedophiles.

To me, The only reason people don't like home, is because it's in Beta. And normally, the Beta wont have many features as the final product.

Hell, I had fun with Home the other night by making a skanky female avatar and watching the horndogs flock to me.

I would ask for their MSN and IM them with webcam, needless to say they were quite appalled when they turned it on to discover me and my friends flipping them off.

*bleep*, that alone was worth downloading it; there were quite a few disgruntled 12 year olds that night.

I think people complain about HOME due to the mob mentality. One person complains, then another, and then another, then the next thing you know you have hundreds of thousands complaining about HOME, all the while whispering to the one next to them saying "What are we talking about again? What is HOME?" then the reply "I don't know, just keep chanting HOME SUCKS!"

Well it starts off with 'Home is so great', then become 'Home is shit!', and now everyone is trying to bring it back full circle with 'Home is so great' again.

Personally I haven't liked Home since day 1. However it's the users that kinda kill it for me. There are some really fowl people using mics on that thing. If I ever get off of my Fallout 3 kick, I will give it another go, but for now I'm only interested in the Wasteland.

I've enjoyed Home, to a certain extent.

I've made some new friends, while bowling, or sitting by the river in the Square.

The only thing I don't like how nearly everything has a price tag.

    GIVE US MORE FREE STUFF.

Of course I'm not saying Home is perfect, and it definitely won't appeal to everyone, but I don't think it warrants as much blind hate as it has accumulated -- a lot of people complain about it for the wrong reasons, imo.

The level which it has escalated is *bleep*ing ridiculous. At this point, you would think these people paid actual money for it and were forced to use Home 15 hours a day.

Home is obviously going to have a few minor adjustments to make it "perfect" or "well-done", but it is a work in progress.

I think HOME is a fabulous idea. All 'em haters are just jealous - I wonder if anyone of them has tried it yet. Having said that, it would be good if Sony allowed a lot of things to be done w/o shelling out buckaroos. It would be smart of Sony to do that - the idea has a lot of potential for other uses (viz ads and marketing) so that Sony doesn't have to milk money out of users like us.
