Gaming has come a long way in the last few years, but animators still have a tough time making their characers walk realistically. Here are ComputerAndVideogames' Top 6 Weirdest Walks in Gaming.
Go the the source for the full list ...

Walking - it's a simple thing to do. But it's absolute nightmare to animate realistically, which is why some games, even with today's tech, make a pig's ear of it. Sometimes with hilarious results. And it's these results we're interested in.

Why some games make the simple task of putting one foot in front look like we've gone over on an ankle (which bloody hurts), we don't know? They should know better.

But here's a selection of our favourite comedy gaming walks, along with videos to give you a clear picture of what in the hell we're talking about.

I'd add the PS2 Silent Hill protagonists to the list. James ran like a woman in heels, Heather ran like she was about to fall over, and Henry ran like a clumsy drunk. It got me a few laughs when I first played those games.

Coincidentally, those animations were done with Mo-Cap...except SH4.

The running in Counter Strike: Source is a little strange if you ask me. They look like they're running over hot coal the way they lift up their legs.

Grand Theft Auto protagonists always have strange walks. Claude had a strange one, Tommy ran just as fast as the moderate-speed vehicles, and Niko leans (as mentioned in the article).

I agree with GTA walks being ridiculous. Also, Agent 47 in Hitman: Contracts was disgraceful.

if they would just use motion capture more often, they wouldnt have to worry about trying to create a walk animation from scratch and not have it look like poop.

Frank West by far has the strangest walk. Capcom have never been good at captioning moving.

The walking in Fallout 3's third person view is simply terrible, Id put it on that list.
