Screw the whole "are games art?" debate, let Cracked show you ten games that they consider to be modern art, even giving example comparisons with established artists. Full list of games is in quote, but go to source for the full read.

RUNNERS UP: Bioshock, Okami, Heart of the Alien, Beyond Good & Evil, the Metroid series, Mirror's Edge, and the works of Warren Spector. Just had to stop at some point. Okami and Heart of the Alien I don't find particularly fun (compared to others on the list), but both innovative visually and deserving of a mention. Beyond Good & Evil and Mirror are fun as hell, and Bioshock is just all around phenomenal. Warren Spector = Thief and Deus Ex, among others.

    It doesn't matter if (you think) Okami isn't fun to play, it's still aesthetically pleasing ¬¬

    I do agree with Heart of Darkness though, I just adored that game as a kid. The moving shadows and many creative ways to die were just amazing.

        Yeah, but this isn't "Modern" art. It is just digital art.

        It is modern as its done with new technologies but its not classed as "modern art".

        If you get what I mean.

    Have you checked out Afro Samurai? The gameplay is just basic hack-and-slash, but the art style is unarguably an absolute marvel.

    Wait wait, what about The Elder Scrolls series?

    That right there deserves to be in the top 10 at least. Hell, if not top 5.

      No way would I consider Elder Scrolls "art". Its just a FP RPG.

      If Elder Scrolls is art, then any FF could be considered art.

    As much as I love Oddworld, I wouldn't consider it art, just very difficult. I'd say Flower and the new PoP deserve some consideration.

      I would -- expresses some very strong emotions on political/human rights issues.
      New PoP is definitely a work of art to me..majestical.

    how the F*#^ did pyschonauts get to #1
    sure its a great game with good humour and storyline but its not exactly art in my opinion

    P.S. okami deserves top 5 at LEAST
