The awesome gang over at 1UP have put together of what they call, the most badass boss fights of all time. There are 25 in all, and the list is cross platform (no fanboyism). That said, do you agree with their choices? Are there games that should have been included? Sound off and say so!

For practically as long as videogames have existed, so too has the end boss. Almost every level or game must end at some point -- but not without building up to some sort of ultimate encounter. In games of skill, bosses serve as the epitome of challenge, and developers have long prided themselves on delivering enemies that are bigger, badder, and wilder than the player can handle. Though we've had countless numbers of favorite bosses over the years, we decided it would be fun to pull together a list of the most badass of the bunch. These are boss battles that are so epic, so challenging, or just so intense that they forever stick with you. If you've been craving a good boss battle, this list is a great place to start.         i remember something like if you save during The End fight, power off the system and power back on later, Snake walks up on The End as he's sleeping by a tree? i think thats what happens and that was such a cool little "secret".

    Pretty cool list. Gotta hand it to the 1up crew for the love of Wind Waker - while Ocarina of Time may have had a slightly better final battle in terms of length and scale (the first time you saw Ganon up on that roof, he was frickin HUGE), the one in Wind Waker was just totally badass. And I loved the kabuki-style garb for the evil Gerudo prince.

    Awesome, Ultimecia's fight got mention. Not a great outstanding villain, but the final fight was definitely epic. Loved the battle music as well.

    Surprised Seproith didn't take the #1 spot.

      Majority? They only had 2 and jecht had no buisness being in there.
      As much as i like ff7 even i dont think that Sephiroth should be listed, Ruby & Emerald WEAPON > Sephiroth

        yeah why Jecht was in there i have no idea. that was just your basic typical RPG end boss fight. you kill his first form and he turns into a more powerful 2nd form, duh. although i will admit i had lots of trouble with him until i just beefed up Anima really good and then wiped the floor with Jecht LOL.

    I'm surprised none of the DMC bosses got mentioned. Especially Mundus. That fight was by far one of the most longest and grueling fights I've ever had (on DMD).

      It WAS surprising that DMC got no mention. Mundus was a good one, but Virgil was such a great boss in DMC3.

      Happy that Alma made the list. Any list of top boss fights without Alma from NG is a poor list.

    Methinks The End should be there (Mgs 3) as well as Yiazmat from FFXII.

    (Yiazmat wasn't that memorable, just difficult)

      Methinks at least some of the bosses from MGS4 should be in there. REX vs Ray was COMPLETELY badass.

        The bosses on MGS4 were nowhere near as good as some of the others in the MGS series (all MGS1 bosses and The End for example).

    Haven't fought most of these XD But yeah, Sin in FFX....I mean, you go INSIDE HIM, yeesh.

    Ugh. The Bowser fights in Galaxy were such a chore, imo -_-

    It's good to see Ultimecia from FFVIII on the list. Yeah she was a pretty average villain plot-wise, but the final boss fight was just....stunning.

    And yay for Nemesis getting a mention. You can't have a list of badass bosses without including him.

    I'll tell you who's an absolute shite boss. Gill. at the end of streetfighter III. Right before him, you fight Akuma, which is a proper challenge (for anyone whos not carouselambra ) blocks, jumps, kicks, combos, hadoken hyoken jimoken all the okens and then you get to gill, and he just stands there. How did he get to be boss of the game when he didnt even learn to block and then he regenerates and you just kick the living crap out of him again.

    Having Ultimecia from FFVIII there is fantastic. Fighting through the 5 forms at the end, with a random 3 party members totally contradicted any lack of difficulty that the game had. Not to mention that there was the chance that you hadn't unlocked all of your talents due to her seal. Classy fight.
