Every video game website under the sun seems to do their share of Top Ten lists. While some of these lists are interesting, original and even entertaining, far too many of them have fallen into the same tired, predictable routines as everyone else.

Binge Gamer's James Walker takes the opportunity to list off just a few of the many generic, overplayed Top Ten lists that gaming sites publish. Ten of them, in fact.

While some of these Top Ten lists are unique and on occasion even entertaining, the vast majority of websites use the inherent binary properties of a “Top Ten” list to create the illusion of variety and originality by flipping the list from a “Best” to “Worst” piece.

In other words, they’re being cheap and lazy.

I, for one, have grown pretty damn tired of seeing a fair majority of these Top Ten lists. So join me as I unleash some random hatred and ironically count down the top ten generic top tens.

There's been a few good ones, but I agree, this one takes the cake, heh.

Personally I like top ten lists but this guy is right about topics that are done too many times. Another pet peeve of mine as far as these top ten lists go is that often the author doesn't look at the list from the perspective that he hasn't played everything out there. A lot of the time they just write it based on games they've played instead of researching the topic, looking stuff up on YouTube, and putting it together from a "pan-gaming" perspective. One time I saw Link as "the #1 most badass character of all time". Zelda fan, thanks much?

i did read it. i dont mean to offend the dude/s who made it, but i think the whole concept is dumb. it's like a self-parody of yourself making fun of yourself.

At least, he's admitting that some top 10 are really overused.
