Top 25 Video Game Heroes of All Time!

Longer lists are definitely better than shorter lists - especially when it comes to video games! Here is our list of Top Video Game Heroes of All Time - with enough spots on it to ensure at least a few surprises. Think we gave too much credit or committed some grave injustices? Speak and be heard!

There are any number of things that make a video game memorable: excellent gameplay, breathtakingly gorgeous graphics, an engaging story, unexpected full-frontal male nudity, etc. But one thing that is guaranteed to make games stick in players' heads like a pick axe after a mine explosion are quality characters. Now hang on one second while Mike takes a whiz and we'll get started.

    When they listed Link, they should've specified the one from Ocarina of time. All the other Links are wannabes.

        I don't know, I just never got into Sonic that much. All that spinning just made me dizzy Though he probably did deserve a mention from a history of gaming perspective

    OMG Vivi made it on there! Pretty cool Kratos made it on there. He was pretty awesome. Ha! Even the Green Man Luigi made it on there! Samus on there to. Mario was a shoe in to be on the top few. Nice to see Link on the top. I agree with it.

    No Sonic? How does that work? And since when was Leisure Suit Larry a hero? I don't think that list was particularly accurate for my liking, but then I only know about 10 of them.

    I think banjo and kazooie deserve a place, and Chris or Jill from resi. Some of the characters on there i didnt even know existed or even cared about.

      I would of thought they would of been on the top 25 as well(Banjo & Kazooie). But I guess not. Sonic should of been in the top 10.

    I like how HK-47 gets ranked higher than Luigi, despite the fact that HK-47 has only starred in two video games, while Luigi has been in countless more and is a lot more well-known.

      Hey, it doesn't matter how often a character appears, it's how good he/she is.

      For example, the Axem Rangers also PWN luigi's ass even though they only appeared once in SMRPG.
      And in Naruto, I easily prefer Kimimaro over any other villain, even though he only appeared once. (not counting flashbacks)

    For an old school gamer, its nice to see Leisure Suit Larry in there actually. Gotta defend that one on the list .

    And 3 cheers for Quest for Glory guy, Guybrush Threepwood, and Minsc as well, the unsung heroes of gaming .

    Glory sounds like a cool name for a guitarist. If he keeps that up, he might actually go into the pros rather than just by joe video game guitar.

    I'm also surprised that no Halo or GTA titles were listed in there. I was expected to see one if not both of them in there somewhere.

    I would agree with twi, a lot of those heros didn't deserve a spot on the list, and some of them suprised me that they were so high up on the list. But it is good to see that link and mario made the top two.

    Link was # 1. Not really surprised. Pissed that not 1 Resident Evil guy was on there. Least I don't think any RE guy was on there, I'm half asleep anyways. And no GTA characters?

    Heh, I was hoping to see Sam Fisher in there. But they got Snake in #3, I'm happy.

    Personally, even though Mario and Link do represent the embodiment of heroes, they don't have any character development, and it's not like you can expect much difference in their storylines either, but to each their own I guess.

    Nice to see Mario as number 2 and Link as number 1. Although I must admit I'm surprised to see Sonic did not make the list. I thought he would have been on there.

    I knew link and Mario were going to be way up at the 1 and 2 marks, but I was surprised at some of the more obscure characters they included. I was happy to see Blade & Stryker (are you a bad enough dude?) along with the beloved HK-47.

    My number 1 is R-110 from Time Splitters 2.

    At least they didn't forget about Earth Worm Jim. =D

    Yeah, Earth Worm Jim used to be the only game I would play. I would come home from school and play it for hours. ~_^

    Many of those names are quite unfamiliar to me, but I'm not too surprised, not being a huge gamer. I think it was a pretty good list though.

    Wow, great spot for Solid Snake. He's been in a lot of great games (MGS!). Not only that, he's going to be in SMBB.
    I can't believe neither Cloud or Sephiroth were in there, what's up with that.

    Wow Link beat Mario. I totally I agree with that but I was expecting Mario to win. I'm surprised at how many of those chracters I actually know since I haven't played many games and almost all of them were from Nintendo

    I guess Cloud and Sephiroth weren't in there because 1) Sephiroth's not a hero, and 2) There's really only been one game where you can play as them.

    Not surprised to see some of them on there, Crash Bandicoot could've been on there though. Master Chief and Samus are cool.
