The top ten best Street Fighter characters from any game in the series, did Ryu or Ken make the top spot, or is it a surprise pick? Only one way to find out.

FOR MOTHER RUSSIA! Zangief has been slowly stalking the battle arena since Street Fighter 2, making any opponent foolish enough to come within the grasp of his spinning piledriver pay the price. Zangief, a world class wrestler, entered the World Warrior tournament at the behest of the president of the now-defunct Soviet Union.

SF has so many classic characters.. hard to choose

Exactly. The list only seems to use characters from SFIV. There's quite a few of others who could have made it from Alpha 3 or the SFIII games. A description for the criteria of the top ten would have helped. I'm assuming it's just based on popularity and not actual gameplay due to the fact that Ken and Ryu and first and second, repectively.

There were actually people who played Street Fighter 3?

Are you saying ken and ryu aren't the best, or that ken isn't better than ryu?

          McClubbin Jun 2, 09
No. What I'm saying is that if the list was based on gameplay, rather than just character popularity, then neither of them should be occupying those spots in my opinion.

Ok so will you just come out and say who you think is best?

Since you're so curious, my choice for the top would be Sagat. He can dish out and take in a ton of damage. He's essentially a better Ken/Ryu clone imo.

          jahrasta311 Jun 2, 09
Sagat's too big of a target and he moves a lot slower than Ken and Ryu.

          McClubbin Jun 2, 09
Ask anybody who mains Sagat and actually knows something about the game and they'll all tell you that you aren't supposed to play aggresively with him. Sagat's a towering powerhouse, similar to a venus flytrap. He draws you in with the Tiger Shots and then uses his Tiger Knee, Tiger Uppercut, or just his regular attacks to pound the opponent.

Ask anyone who doesn't main Sagat and they'll tell you that you're full of crap.

If you had read the list, instead of just going to see who was #1 and crying, you'd notice that the person who wrote the list doesn't like to play like a pansy.

Since you're so observant, I'm sure you've also noticed that the author provides NO basis for the selection criteria. And I've already stated that it must be based simply on popularity. But since you were begging for my opinion on who deserved the spot, I told you who it was, as well as why I chose him (in context of gameplay and not just popularity). Which obviously is beyond the grasp of your limited knowledge of the games.

Try again once you actually start to follow the series, scrub. Or just go online and face someone who actually knows how to play Sagat.

Because the people who don't main Sagat don't know *bleep* all about him, obviously they'd say that jah

All of Sagat's rush moves, whilst tank-like in strength and decent in speed of attack, are slow when getting composure. It's very easy to block and then counter a rushing Sagat; I learned this from experience. If you rush with him against someone who isn't an idiot you will lose.

However if you understand the enemy you're facing and know their moves (not saying fighting a friend or something, but if you're fighting someone who's using someone you play as a lot or have fought a lot, and thus know their moves) then you can become a mousetrap and break their spine if they come near you. This is basic Street Fighter 101.

Is it just me or should this list be named 'top ten most cheaply used characters of SFIV... and Chun Li.'?
    • 0
      jahrasta311 Jun 2, 09
Meh, just cuz they're cheaply used doesn't take away from their coolness. You can play cheap with anyone, just so happens that more people tend to use the original 12 and the hidden/boss characters most.

Tiger of Wu Jun 2, 09
The fact they're used cheaply doesn't make them less cool; I agree.

However, there are a great many characters cooler then Blanka and more deserving of recognition then Gouken (yeah, he trained Ken and Ryu but he also got his ass handed to him on a silver platter by Akuma not long after) meaning the only reasons they chose those characters were due to the fact they're easier to use cheaply, further proved by the descriptions and whatnot... with Chun Li added because, simply put, she's Chun Li.

    Storm Jun 2, 09
Eh, decent list...why the hell is Gouken on there, though? There should be a more definitive character there, one who's appeared in more than one game at least.

    Ken at #1, nice!
    • 1
      jahrasta311 Jun 2, 09
Ken wouldn't know any moves without Gouken.
      • 2
        Storm Jun 2, 09
That doesn't really matter. Why not put Goutetsu as well, since the lineage apparently dates back from him and on? We aren't talking about who they learned from as reasons to put them on, I thought this was more about their personality, style, gameplay, overall character...Gouken barely has anything going for him.

Tiger of Wu Jun 2, 09
Gouken wouldn't know any moves without his master, and so on.

Ken and Ryu can, and I believe on more then one occasion have, stood up against Akuma and not died. Therefore, logicality dictates they both have surpassed Gouken. Whether he taught them originally or not makes no difference.

Gouken didn't die at the hands of Akuma.

Tiger of Wu Jun 2, 09
They had an epic fight and Gouken never appeared again; Akuma did.

So you're telling me Gouken won and then died of aids? It's pointless anyway, you seem to love him way too much to let this go.
        • 2
          Storm Jun 2, 09
Gouken not dying isn't really the point here...it's true he was presumed dead and ending up making a shocking return for SFIV, some stupidness about the 'power of nothingness' or whatever, but still, he's not worth the top ten.

Well I'm glad we disagree, because you're both obviously idiots.
        • 2
          Storm Jun 3, 09
Right...because that makes a lot of sense. So by your logic, people who disagree with you are idiots, even though you're defending a pointless case? Very well then, that says a lot about your character.

Tiger of Wu Jun 3, 09
So people who have a differing opinion, backed with more evidence and logic then yours, are idiots? That's the kind of thinking that started the holocaust you Rtard.

So you're either a complete moron or have just ran out of anything useful and logical to back your arguments and thus have conceded to school yard tactics? (something which complete morons do, mind, so you could be both)

Wow, and we're the idiots Go sit down, have some warm milk, grow a brain, get some basis for what you're saying and then feel free to rebut otherwise just don't say anything at all because you're making yourself look very very stupid.

So who would you add to the list? (to anyone)

    kspiess Jun 2, 09
I didn't read the list, but if I were to make one, I'd put Akuma pretty close to the top.

Feels like someone is missing from the list, but not sure who quite yet.. Time to dig back through all the iterations of SF
