As part of their Cheers & Tears feature for the summer, IGN's next segment takes a look at 5 strategy games on the DS (which there are plenty of) you should play and another 5 to avoid. The cheers section is comprised of Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Knights in the Nightmare, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2, Age of Empires: Mythologies, and Lock's Quest. The tears section contains Shogun Empires, Steel Horizon, The Seetlers, Command & Destroy, and Desktop Tower Defense. Notably absent from the cheers section are Disgaea DS and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon.
The Nintendo DS has been a magnet for strategy games since its launch in 2005. In the last four years we've seen numerous turn-based, real time, and role playing strategy games ranging from incredible to downright awful.
It's hard to tell from looking which game is going to be a deep immersive experience, and which one is going to make you question whether the developers know what the word "strategy" even means.
That's where we come in. We've compiled the list of the top five, and bottom five strategy games on the dual screened handheld. There's a mix across all the sub-genres, so there's sure to be something for everyone.
Let's start off with the good ones, shall we?

I'm glad KitN is up there. It definitely deserves a spot imo. Also, I haven't even heard of any of the games on the tears list. So I doubt I'd pick them up anyway.
Lol but seriously, why don't you like Disgaea?
I agree with the sentiments that Disgaea and Fire Emblem need to be represented. In addition, though, I think Valkyrie Profile should be on there too. I actually enjoyed it more than the two aforementioned games just because it was so different. It had a very fun and unique take on the SRPG genre with its engaging, action-packed battles.
