Batman: Arkham Asylum has been released today and, judging by first impressions, it looks like it is living up to the hype. Still haven't decided whether it's worth a purchase or not? This might help you make up your mind. Go to the source for IGN's Top 10 Reasons We Love Batman: Arkham Asylum...

Let's face it comic book fans... good games based on the characters we love are a bit hard to come by. Most efforts seem to center around movies, and it seems as though the time and effort put into many AAA games just isn't extended to the licenses and franchises we read about every Wednesday.

That's why Arkham Asylum is such a surprise. It's good. In fact, it's very good. Taking the best elements of Metroid, Bioshock and even Metal Gear, Arkham actually stands on its own two feet as a quality videogame first, and a Batman game second. It doesn't rest on its visible license. But here's the catch – it's still a brilliant Dark Knight game. If you ask IGN's comics crew, they'll tell you this is easily the best realization of Batman in interactive entertainment, and it's quite possibly the best comic book videogame to date.

With Arkham hitting stores today, we thought we'd tour through ten qualities (in no particular order) of Arkham that best demonstrate Rocksteady's excellent commitment to the Batman license and realization of DC's world. Make no mistake about it – whether you buy, borrow or steal this game, you must play it if you're a fan of the Caped Crusader.
