The Top 10 Characters From The Final Fantasy Franchise

A top 10 list of the best characters from Square-Enix's Final Fantasy series. It was hard to narrow down to 10 when there are so many memorable characters in the series.

Cecil is the main character of Final Fantasy 4, originally released in the US as Final Fantasy 2 for the Super Nintendo. Cecil starts out the game as a bad ass dark knight, but has to undergo a transformation to a paladin to fight the true enemy. It’s too bad, really, because his first form is much cooler.

    Props to having Kain and Squall in the top 5. Hell, Kain is so awesome now he should be numero uno! Move over Cloud, you ain't got nothin' on that Holy Dragoon.

    I was going to complain about Kain not being number 1, but Sabin is indeed the most badass character in the series.

    Honestly, statistically Cloud is one of the best characters from the whole series. Problem is that he's a pain in the ass from the end of disc 1 to about three hours into disc 2.

      all of our lists are opinion. we know we're not the end-all of video games. what would you change?

        I am aware it is opinion, but there are just some things which I disagree with. Generally none of the characters are really given justification of their choosing, just a brief bio, with a remark like "His clothing is cool" or "This guy gets you tons of equipment with his steal." Which I think are hardly good reasons anyway. Also, there is not one character from X, X-2, XI or XII. I know some people don't see those games in the best light, but there is surely one or two guys in there who deserve a spot. There are also no villains.

        Just some random stuff, I won't go into the characters themselves because that's really individual to each person.

    So i take it this is characters that are NOT villains, ok, so this list is quite sexist though, seeing as everyone is a man, well maybe not cloud but ya'know.

    List needs some Terra love, arguably one of the most awesome characters considering she can change into a *bleep*in esper!

      if she could change into an esper for more than 2 seconds in battle, she's be cooler. the developers even knew she wasn't the best character in the game, so they barely even made her the lead character.

      in fact, she isn't even close to being a lead character in the world of ruin.

    I don't think Cait sith shouldn't have been in that list.

    BTW,Squall and Cloud are WAY cooler than Sabin! But Sabin would still be in the top 5

      Yea, if anyone on that list is 'iffy' it'd be Zidane. I've barely seen fanboy/girlism over Zidane. Tifa or Vincent garner more of a ranking than him. I mean, Vincent even has his own game

        Zidane is a shallow character. and the only FF protagonist that warrants being called "emo bitch" is Squall. Tidus was emo, but not a bitch. but yes, even he 's more interesting.

          That's mindblowing information.

          What about the Shinra soldiers in VII that you can choose to capture instead of kill? Are they still villains? They'd be my favorites.

          Haha, of course they count, just about any NPC that you can attack should count.

          Hm, agree with your top three, but I'd switch Kain with Cecil to make him number 1. Cecil's ok and all, but I didn't find him to be as interesting as Kain. He was the generic hero pretty much, mixed in with a cliche brother vs brother story. Compassionate hero, yes, trustworthy and honorable, sure, but it's been done enough times for me to get fed up with.

          I made Kain second and Sabin first. Sabin suplexed a mother*bleep*ing train, that's all I have to say about that.

          "villains" =/= generic enemies. Villains are your storyline enemies that are either final bosses or masterminds behind at least some major plot line in the game.

        i was gonna list em out for you, but you have to wait for the list.

        just a tip, there have been 12 games in the series, and each game isn't limited to one villain.

      I don't think anyone liked Cait Sith in VII. I'd say Cecil->Kain->Sabin for top 3, to be honest.

    No FFT series characters is kind of dissapointing since I thought a lot of them were pretty popular with fans. :L
