Oricon recently released a survey that asked Japanese gamers what they thought the most tear-jerking RPGs were. Read below for the results....

I thought I'd share another list: the top 5 tearjerker RPGs. Here they are according to Oricon:

1. Final Fantasy X
2. Dragon Quest V
3. Final Fantasy VII
4. CLANNAD
5. Mother 2 (EarthBound)

Clannad is an RPG? I thought it was a visual novel.

Clannad, like many anime shows, has a game too. And 99 times out of 100, they never leave Japan (officially).

A lot of the games are either on the PC, PS2, or both. They're usually basically dating sims, so far as I know. Some have actual gameplay, but again, it's mostly about trying to land one of the characters.

Air was a great tearjerker anime, so its associated game probably was too. Same studio made Clannad (as well as Kanon).

Oh yeah, FFX made me cry, too.

Probably not for the same reasons, though.

If you're going to hit us with yet another top list at least put some substance into it. It doesn't take a genius to throw a list of games together with no proper explanation. Especially when you try and label a dating sim as a RPG.

I saw this on EarthBound Central before. You can read why Japanese people choose those games here.

Earthbound made people cry? I was too busy laughing at the corny jokes to notice any tear-jerking moments.

    FFX was pretty sad alright.

I laughed at how Earthbound got up there. But after seeing what the Big A2 linked to, I understand why.
