Top 10 Banned Video Games

Ameer | June 21, 2007 | Top List | PC Playstation 2
With Manhunt 2 receiving bans from the UK and quite possibly within the US as well, the gaming community is in outrage. However, games are handed out all around the world more freely than you probably realise. Some suprises in this list include 50 Cent Bulletproof and Pokemon Emerald. No joke.
Manhunt 2 may be the hot topic today following the BBFC's questionable decision to reject the game and refusal to give it a classification (thus making it illegal to sell in the UK) but banning games is more worryingly common than you may realise. Here's 10 games that have been gagged across the world...

Why is Pokemon Emerald banned in Suadi Arabia? Is it because that the pokemon don't wear pants? That is totally messed up. Manhunt shouldn't be banned in the US. If the first one wasn't, then we better keep the second one.

If you read the article, Pokemon was banned for having a symbol similar to the Star of David found in it somewhere. And if you haven't figured it out yet, the Suadi's don't really like the Jews.

I don't see how games can get banned, they can't really be that bad that they can get banned from a country.

Its not always how bad a game is (see Pokeman: Emerald) but up to what that countries video game review board thinks of it.

A lot of countries also have a bunch of rules about what they will allow in a game and what they wont.

In the case of Manhunt 2, its apparently due to the degree of violence in the game.

Nice list. Some of those games really shouldn't be banned but oh well. I can't believe Pokemon Emerald was banned. I can't believe they banned it because they thought the game would possess the minds of Saudi children. LOL.

Australia and New Zealand are so tough on video games classification, not only do we have no R rating, but even if a game is already classified it can be overruled by local and state government, while its still possible for the UK and US to play Manhunt, I know that I'll never see it in Australia

Why do we need games like this anyway, if they make really bad games stricly for adults then they should make something to stop kids playing with these games, and if they know that these games are going to get banned in countrys because it won't sell well because it is such a vilent game then they shouldn't even be making these games, they shouldn't make anything this vilent.

People have been pushing the envelope in every aspect of human life forever, and that applies no less in video games. It is the nature of the world, and will never stop.

I'm quite surprised that Manhunt isn't on that list as that got a lot of media coverage when it was first released, but like many people have said :
