This is a list of the top 10 video game sequels that will release in 2010 (plus a bonus choice) from gaming website PlanetXbox360.com - next year looks to be a great one for video games!

2010 looks to be the year of sequels. The industry loves them; this past year, the biggest selling titles were sequels – Halo 3: ODST, Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed 2. Sequels sell well because, obviously, they are recognizable to consumers. And what consumer doesn’t like to stay in their comfort zone? There’s plenty to be said for innovative new properties; games like Brutal Legend and Dead Space come out of nowhere to massive success (and inevitably start franchises of their own). Indie games in particular tend to offer a non-mainstream experience that is often completely unique when compared to the tried-and-true formulas of franchises. Still, how about some love for the franchises? Some of the best games in recent memory are part of mega-franchises: GTA IV, Fallout 3 and Halo 3 spring to mind. Sequels are able to excel because a) they have huge amounts of money poured into them and b) they are built upon (mostly) very stable foundations. If a game is successful enough, then by definition it must have done something right. Sequels can build upon an original’s successes and rectify any shortcomings making use of that most wonderful of things: hindsight. With all of this in mind, I will now list the top five video game sequels landing in 2010.

Mass Effect 2, God War 3, Bioshock 2, Arkham Asylum 2... This guy is really going out on a limb ain't he

Though putting Dead Space 2 at No.1 is rather questionable. Not to mention...

    quote the link
    Number 1: Dead Space 2.

Initially looking like Resident Evil in space, Dead Rising somehow proved to be more than the sum of its parts

He had his reasons. Ah, I dunno, maybe...Let's see...How about the fact that Dead Space was a really *bleep*ing awesome game and the sequel is probably going to be better than a few of those titles up there?

Yeah, that sounds about right. Just because there's a shitload of heavy hitters doesn't mean that the survival horror genre should be caste aside like human waste. Dead Space didn't sell well, we get it, but it still kicked ass.

I feel sorry for all the sequels that have to go up against Mass Effect 2, seriously that game is going to squash all the competition.

Mass Effect 2 isn't going to "squash" Bioshock 2, God of War 3 (especially this one), B:AA 2 (even though I think this is a 2011 release), and Dead Space 2. Those are ALL going to be top of the line titles.

I agree that ME2 is going to be amazing though. What a year for gaming!

Bioshock 2 looks terrible compared to the first one, i feel that it's completely lost the creepy ass touch it had and now it's just a run and gun. God of War 3 however much i like the series, looks just like the first game and from what i've heard, plays near enough exactly like it too. Dead Space 2 i'll have to wait and see some actual gameplay for first.

However Mass Effect 2 is bringing completely different gameplay ammongst 2 discs of content which co-link in with your choices of the first game and change the whole games story based on what happened in the first game along with it's spectacular visuals and story, it's set to be GOTY 2010.
