If you thought Final Fantasy XIII's reception was all negative, think again. Dengeki has released the results of a readers poll, asking gamers to vote for their favorite games of 2009, and FFXIII came in 2nd.
Go to the source for the full list of games.

Dengeki has released the results of a readers poll in which people voted for what they thought was the best game of 2009. A list of the top 20 has been published on their website and Final Fantasy XIII has managed to secure second place. Although there has been a backlash of Japanese fans who have complaints ranging from Final Fantasy XIII's linearity to there being no levels, it still seems to have won people over.

I trust gamers more than I trust reviewers. They put their hard earned cash down for these games so what they same (mostly) comes from the heart.

I agree with a few of those games, but I definitely like these "reviews" more than the actual reviews by professionals.

I wish I could say this is somehow definitive but unfortunately the masses are anything but. If they were, Halo wouldn't be such a phenomenon and it would be realized as the widely average series that it is. Not terrible by any means, but certainly undeserving of it's financial success relative to the countless other gems that go seemingly unnoticed.

That being said, I'm sure I'll still love FFXIII.

I'd rather wait to get the game myself before deciding on whether it's good or not...

Dragon Quest IX received a heap of hate as well.

What a strange coincidence that two games which received a lot of hate in Japan immediately following their release ended up on top.

Huh, I find that kind of surprising actually, especially since it beat out the Gold/Silver remakes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that it got a high spot, kind of a smack in the face for all the nay-sayers, but I'm just kind of curious. Results skewed a bit, possibly? Or mainly due to the fact that it was the freshest game on everyone's mind at the end of the year?

Can't say its a true indication (as all the other games surrounding it are JRPG's). But I certainly take this more to heart than anything that the professional reviewers have said.

It's Square Enix... Of Course Japan is going to say that FF 13 is the best game of 2009. To be honest the best Final Fantasy game is FF 4. I played that for 80 hours. And yet my favourite Square Enix game of all time is Dragon Quest 8 so FF can eat shit for all I care... And that's final.
