Most of those are annoying yes, but I've noticed that escort missions seem to be getting better this generation. Anyone agree? It might just be the games I'm playing.

Nope, I agree mostly. Many games do make escort missions entertaining. It's a revolution!

One annoying feature in video games today I can say off the top of my head.

    LACK OF *BLEEP*ING SPLITSCREEN!

What the hell did splitscreen do to piss everybody off so much? Why is it that game developers are now just assuming people live by themselves and are in their basement and have no human contact what-so-ever...

If I have a couple friends over (and we decide to play some video games) I'd like to be able to do so on something other than the Wii (or Halo 3).

But apart from that Semi-rant, I agree with all of these, especially those darn escort missions... there has NEVER been a good one EVER.

PS3 games have a lack of splitscreen, but most 360 titles, permitting, include splitscreen.

I think I've been missing this tutorial ordeal, each game I've played recently has had a wonderful integrated tutorial that gets to the point and let's you get on with things, discovering more information as you need it. Which is a really good idea.

I agree with you. Everybody needs a tutorial at the start of a game you've never played before.

Not exactly an annoying feature, but the general degrading of single player experiences in favour of multi-player saddens me a great deal these days.

This is why I'm glad Fumito Ueda remains faithful to the single player experience. Shadow of the Colossus is an unrivaled experience, and there isn't a lick of multiplayer to be found.
