Scott Sharkey reckons there isn't much originality when it comes to the characters of Final Fantasy, pulling them out of the same several moulds for each game. Is the crazy hair really the only difference between them? Read on to find out!

With more than a dozen Final Fantasy games out there now, it seems a little bit weird that we haven't been treated to even that many distinct characters. Alright, maybe that's a bit harsh, but it sure seems like we've been sticking pretty close to the same half dozen guys and gals, with a few minor differences in hairstyle. Maybe that's just the way people are. I'm sure you've encountered, or have been one of these types in your own nihilist-villain-and-summoned-dragon-free life. Either somebody's playing it close with the big book of tropes, or there really is some Jungian collective unconscious full of universal cliches. I hear that FFXIII likes to subvert this crap, but I bet you'll still recognize some old friends.
