The ten best endings in the history of the video game medium. While the list is a little retro oriented, it nonetheless spans games from Contra to Final Fantasy 7.

The first time in gaming history where an island blows up, Contra gave the gamer the ending he wanted when playing this apparently unbeatable game (without the code of course). With seconds left, and the island about to detonate, you would see the protagonists fly off of the island in a little 8-bit helicopter just in time. The satisfaction that came over the gamer here was immense, considering how long and difficult the journey was. Seeing the island destroyed raised emotions of victory more than any other game for the NES. The simple dialog after the destruction of the island is not very thoughtful, but this still doesn’t take away from one of the most powerful endings for the NES console.

Wow. I'm shocked that neither FFX or FFX-2 made the list.

Those are without a doubt the two best endings I've ever played through.

Old Wizard doesn't realize that there were games produced after 1999. It's sad, really, to see such fine young men delude themselves so pathetically.

Holy crap! Old Wizard actually put two games in there that AREN'T on a Nintendo console! I'm shocked!

To DMD, I thought FFX and FFX-2's endings were terrible, but to each his own

FFX's ending was amazing. FFX-2's....not so much. Unless we're talking about the bad ending where Spira is destroyed. Now that was an ending worthy of that game!

What's FFVII doing on the list? It's not a bad ending, but no even close to the pure epicness of other FF endings. What about FFVIII's gorgeous ending? Hell, even FFIX?

These games had good endings? I know it's Old Wizard, but even from them I'd expect better picks.
