Scott Keifer of Resumeplay.net takes a look at the less popular side to violent gaming, the melee side that is.

In today's world of remote controlled tactical strikes and end all nuclear ballistic missles, it's nice to remember how things used to be when you're favourite weapon only had a few feet of effective range.

In today's shooter-filled market, we spend a lot of time spraying bullets and looking down scopes. But every modern shooter gives us some kind of blunt weapon or knife for up-close encounters. In real life, if a badguy charged at you with a knife, you'd probably still shoot him. But video games make the melee button so satisfying, as you watch an opponent crumple to the ground, stumble backwards, or see the "Beat-Down" medal flash on screen. Melee weapons add a visceral side to our shooters and racers, so this is to you, blunt objects: our Top 10 Melee Weapons list!

What a boring and uninspiring list.

What an insightful and well thought comment...

Next time why not post what your favourite weapons would be?

I would create a selection that wasn't all just variants of the same theme. Crowbar, Wrench, Chainsaw... They've avoided mentioning anything that's actually creative and interesting in any way, ie Auto-Axe from Fallout 3.

I spent as much time and thought on that first comment as they spent on the entire list. That explain well enough for you how it was an ironic and relevant comment? Or do you want to jump the gun again and look more of an argumentative child?

He made a suggestion, if a little ungracefully. I don't see asking for contribution to be argumentative, but calling someone a argumentative child is, ironically, argumentally childish.

His comment was snide and provocative. Ungraceful isn't really the word I'd use.

Sep, the guy got pissy because he posted the article and someone didn't like it. It's happened before, and that is all there is to it XD

          Thank you, was that hard?

I'm not the author but I don't like to see someone sum up an author's work in six words and expect us to think he's some sort of genius for it. If you want to bash it, feel free to do so but give a reason instead of "boring & uninspiring". I'll apologise for being blunt, now we'll let that be the end of it before a flame war develops and consumes the comment section.

Boring and uninspiring are two reasons.

          Just saying.

You know that's not what I meant and you still point that out? What point of avoiding the flame war didn't you get XD

I'm not trying to start a flame war I'm just saying, don't hate 'cause you know it's true

The question isn't whether I know, it's whether that matters to what I'm aiming to achieve

Without even looking at the list, I'm calling teh FFVII Buster Sword, Halo Energy Sword, and Gears of War chainsaw bayonet. I would have included the Half-Life crowbar, but the picture already gave it away.

    *checks answers*

Struck out on the Buster Sword, Energy Sword got mentioned but seems to be a contender in their next list, and I got the chainsaw bayonet.

Calling the Buster Sword and Keyblade for their swords list, though.

I dunno if Scott's doing another or if it's another author doing that, I call dibs on the Master Blade showing up though.

Or some media form of excalibur.
