Kid Icarus is considered a classic of Nintendo gaming. It’s usually found in the top 20 of articles that list the best games of all time. At WEDO, we just took it for granted that id Icarus had to be a great game because of its high ranking everywhere. So we wanted to see how good Kid Icarus was and shelled out $50.00 for a sullied copy . Off we went with the heroic music playing in the background, controlling Kid climbing up cliffs. After about an hour we beat level 1-1. Huh. Okay, maybe just a way to trick you into thinking the game will be harder than the first level of the game. The second level comes up and it takes us over 2 hours. What’s going on? Why is this game so damn hard? How come I lose my energy so quickly? How come there are a million enemies on the screen attacking me from all angles? How come I can’t buy anything from the shop because I don’t have anywhere near close to the money I would need to buy the cheapest thing? Maybe we were just bad on that night. We would finally beat 1-2 and come back to 1-3 the next day. That level took us the whole night to beat with controllers thrown, hands-on-face frustration, and one of us saying “This is the worst game of all time”. Don’t let this game fool you. There’s a genuine quality to the game play, but it’s so difficult that you will spend days just trying to complete the 1st world. You don’t run through this game. You climb it meticulously and prudently knowing that you will never have enough money to buy what you need from the store that has a monopoly in the Kid Icarus world.
