Sunday Special: Top Ten Videogame Heroes

Electronic Theatre delivers a rundown of the top ten videogame heroes in the latest Sunday Special weekly feature, including Sonic, Cloud Strife and Sam Fisher.

Since there are literally hundreds of thousands of games out there, it’s no easy task for lead characters to make a lasting impression on the player. Once in a while however, you'll come across a leader that's different. Somehow, that character manages to set himself apart from the others.

      Take out Sonic, Mario or Cole and put Drake in there.

          And anyway, Cole could be either good or evil depending on how the player chooses. So it doesn't even make sense for him to be on a top heroes list.

    I've never understood what's so likeable about Drake. I mean, a good protag needs to be relate-able and he's just a cliche douchebag; how can anyone relate to tha-... oh. Right.

      Nathan Drake is the very definition of a Hero. The shit he goes through in Uncharted 2, he deserves a spot on the list.

      I also think Jak and Daxter should have been on the list, along with Ratchet and Clank.

        He's not a hero, he's a murderous sociopath who's just out for his own sake. Heroic traits, sure. But if he's the "definition of hero" then Hannibal Lecter is a paragon of virtue.

        Cole has no right being on that list though, he's a blank slate who's entire virtues of heroism or villainy is based on the player.

        A hero isn't someone who goes through shit and then against the odds kills a bunch of mother*bleep*ers and steals a whole load of treasure in the process, unless if you're a museum curator with a murderous side.

    Surprised to see Mario hit No. 3, and the blatant absence of the great Donkey Kong. Did they just flatout forget the arcade classic?!

      How is Donkey Kong heroic? When he's not kidnapping women, he's on a revenge rampage over stolen bananas.

      Protagonist/player character does not equal hero or even heroic.
