In the seventh generation of video game consoles, story became more important than ever. Here are 10 examples of the best stories this round of machines has produced - so far.

The beauty lies in what is communicated to us from the game, and in how we respond to its resonance. They don't need to be complicated or elegant, but they must introduce characters and ideas that stir us, tied into a story that has something grander to say.

MGS4? Yeah I don't think so. The story became so convoluted you couldn't' even tell what was happening. That's why they had to release some huge database to try to explain everything. Just because a story is complex does NOT mean it's good. The fact the storyline of the Metal Gear Solid franchise was lost on a majority of people who played it would be evidence of how BAD it was.

And the fact that most of those people, like most gamers of this generation, don't care too much about story and hadn't played the previous games is evidence of how much bullshit you're spouting.

MGS4 was made for the fans of the series, and to fans of the series it was great. Needlessly complicated and long? Sure. But you seem to think that that automatically makes it bad without analysing the actual story of it, which is just as ridiculous.

    GTA4? Really?

Red Dead is highly overrated but I can understand the hype. But GTA4? =\

I'm not sure whether this article is supposed to be a serious article or taking the piss >_>

I mean, portal really? I mean, I love that game to death but there is no narrative there at all.

I think it's mostly just that whoever wrote it hasn't played many games and reads too much popular media. Meaning they're basing their opinion on either a limited selection of games they have played, or what they have garnered from other writers and clumped into a semblance of individual thought. Neither option is in any way conducive to a good list. Especially one that sets out to be representative of an entire generation.

I'm pretty sure the author has misused the word 'narrative' here. He's mostly talking about subtext as opposed to the narrative structure, in fact he only briefly mentioned it all
