Games We Love but Wish We Could Love Playing

Game Podunk blogger, Skygear75 writes on the three things that needs to be changed in Final Fantasy 13-2 to improve from its prequel. Read on for more and further details.
Yes I know, Final Fantasy games have always been linear, but XIII was inexcusably horrid and outright boring. The entire game was literally a slow drawn out dungeon crawl, fighting your way from one room to another then interrupted by a poorly weaved FMV to splash out a nonsensical story. This formula then repeats over and over again until you reach the near end of the game where players finally have the option to take side missions. Then we find out the side missions are also the same drawn out quests of monster slaying with no special rewards or incentives on completing them. The game lacked the fun factor so much that you can say XIII is Final Fantasy VIII gone wrong. Trust me, VIII wasn’t great either, but was still a better game than XIII.

The battle system wasn't amazing, really fun at times (in the harder fights where you're actually forced to manage you classes properly were really fun), but overall I'd prefer a more traditional ATB... and last time I checked Lightning is on the boxart, meaning she is more than likely the main character.
I just miss towns, I need somewhere to interact with NPC's, sell shit and explore, maybe I'm old fashioned but that is what RPG's are all about.
I thought the story on FFXIII was actually fantastic, the battle system wasn't TOO bad but it did kind of hold your hand till near the end of the game.
I miss towns too. Not being able to talk to anyone and interact with shops and do sidequests in a FF is like WHAAAAAAAAAA? =P
There's always room for improvement on everything, but I really thought the battle system was awesome. I welcome any improvements, as long as it doesn't screw up anything.
Am I the only person that didn't particularly care for Lightning, though? I mean, there have been worse Final Fantasy characters, but Lightning's kind of a solid neutral for me.
