In light of Mother's Day, Destructoid has popped off a list of the top 10 video game moms (it's slightly tamer than this one). It reads as follows:

10. Rosa (Final Fantasy IV the After: Tsuki no Kikan)
9. Mayna (Legacy of the Wizard)
8. Marge (The Simpsons Arcade Game)
7. Ness’s Mom (EarthBound)
6. Lara (Chrono Trigger)
5. Dr. Tenenbaum (BioShock)
4. Valanice (King’s Quest VII: The Princeless Bride)
3. Lirum (Lost Odyssey)
2. Jade (Beyond Good & Evil)
1. Denise Concelmo (The Concelmo Family)

It's a pretty good one, though I'd have to maybe add Eve from Parasite Eve. I know I'd let her babysit my hypothetical kids!

It’s Mother’s Day! Stop reading this for a second and go call your mom to tell her how much you love her. I don’t care if your mother “accidentally” ran you over with an orange truck or dropped you on your head at the local bar. She is your mother and deserves all the love and respect in the world.

Well, most mothers do, anyway.

In videogames, the mothers of main characters generally fall into three distinct categories: they are either completely insignificant, evil, or not talked about whatsoever. Some videogame moms, though, stand out as being truly interesting characters. Not only do they play a significant role in the game, they also personify what the perfect real-world mother should be: caring, compassionate, loving, and protective souls who only want the best for their family and loved ones.

Marge Simpson?! She doesn't deserve to be on that list.

Agreed. Her kids get away with too much crap...And she has a horrible husband (who in real life, would not be considered so 'lovable')....

As much as I don't know her, I agree with the number one winner. A mother who doesn't complain about being an hour late for dinner because of a video game is awesome.

I think video games are great ways to develop the mind, and I hope more moms get convinced of that. Maybe the new generations of Moms will all be gamers too! Think how smart the kids will be.
