Top 5 most ironic genres in video games

Chaos | May 22, 2008 | Top List | Misc
This is a strange list, but a fun list to read nonetheless... The top 5 most ironic genres in video games!
I bet none of you will guess what genre is number one.
Today, seeing a certain advert on the TV for the thousandath time prompted me to write this article on ironic game genres. Now, this is a game review site, but I think a lot of people get caught up in the gaminess of games and end up forgetting about this other realm of imagination--real life. As a result, developers have seen fit to enhance our lives by giving us an opportunity to just completely ignore real life, and do everything on the console.

I'm really not too surprised at the answer, to be honest. A person owns a video game not to get in shape, but to have fun. It's hard to find irony in video games, so that game must seriously hit the nail on the head.

Meh, it is a general rule for the more 'experienced' gamers to avoid Movie franchise games in general, though like the article states, there are exceptions. Interesting symmetry between Halo and Starship Troopers....And yeah, it probably wouldn't have sold so well....

I think a lot of people notice the irony of Sims type games....But still find a draw to it. Challenge (live the best sim-life you can, accomplish goals x, y, and z, etc)....Sadistic pleasure (kill your sim, deprive them of a toilet, etc). Live out a fantasy (expansion packs and DLC expand on this)....

Sports games....Meh, yeah, rather ironic. But it allows 'couch jocks' to actually do what they want to do (play sports, without actually having to get off their arses)....And maaaaybe some people don't want to actually break their bones and such?

Wii fit....yeah, it isn't even designed to get you fit (not using the board anyhow)....
