(Trailer) Square Enix's new survival horror ... The Game With No Name!

Gothic Girl | June 07, 2008 | Video | DS
Square Enix's have released a new trailer for their newest survival horror game for DS, Na Nashi no Geemu (Game with No Name).
The game will be released in Japan on July 3rd. There is no news on a North American release date, though let's hope it comes to English shores ...

Square's DS horror offering, Na Nashi no Geemu (Game with No Name), made waves in my consciousness a few months back when some screenshots were spied in Famitsu. Now that the title is nearing its Japanese release date (July 3rd) more information is hitting the net, including a new trailer.

The trailer itself actually shows the "game within a game" that you play as part of the storyline, which draws a sharp contrast to the spooky atmosphere with a sudden dose of Dragon Warrior-style graphics and music. Wha?

It's quite an ... er ... interesting interpretation of survival horror, ne?

Either that, or I'm missing something.

Oh please, that's not survival horror. But why the DS. Why.

I know distortion is a common tactic to use in trailers of Survival horror games...but the whole thing in general makes no *bleep*ing sense whatsoever for those who do not understand Japanese.

I wonder if it made much more sense to people who do understand Japanese?

Squeenix should stick to RPGs. They've tried their hand in other genres ... and seem to always fail miserably.

How could I forget Parasite Eve?! You're right, they were good games. I had a few moments from being scared at things jumping out at me. (though maybe PE was a result of Squaresoft's brilliance, and not Squeenix's because ... well ... we all saw how Squeenix's last shooter ended up).

PE1 wasnt even an actual shooter, it played more like Vagrant Story but with guns. PE2 though was a shooter, I played it for a little bit at a friends house, didnt feel the same as the first one.

        Oh and, Squaresoft = Win
        Square Enix = Pain
        *laugh*

Tbh, I'm probably one of the few people liked PE2 better than PE1 because it was more of a shooter/survival-horror game (probably because I played PE2 before PE1). I really enjoyed it and think it's sad that Squeenix can't make shooters (or games of any other genre) like that anymore.

I didnt really give PE2 a chance since I only played it little bit, so I cant say if its any good or not, but from the get-go it didnt fel like the first one, which did dissapoint me. Still I might enjoy it if I give it a shot, but at this point I got too many games to even think about picking it up.

WTF? I wrote an entire paragraph and all that came out is a weird sentence?

What I was supposed to say was that it was an odd-looking horror game, and that it should be called the game with no name. xD Catchy.
