Here is a list of ScrewAttack's top 10 FPS (first person shooters) ever. Halo and Call of Duty are up there, not surprisingly.

10. Bioshock
9. Doom 3
8. Half-Life 2
7. Duke Nukem
6. Counter-Strike

Time for another Top 10 list from Screwattack who apparently played every first-person shooter ever and narrowed it down. The most dominant genre in gaming today, Stuttering Craig takes a glimpse at The top 10 best FPS games ever.

Goldeneye as number one? That's a joke. I know everyone loved it when it was out but I'm *bleep*ing sorry, it has not stood the test of time and a list of the best FPS' of all time should be ones that have stayed the best. Also, Halo as number 2? Absolutely not. Halo 3 is the best Halo to date, no question about it. It is better than the other Halo's by leaps and bounds. This is a highly flawed list. Terrible really.

Well actually, Halo sucked balls. Halo 2 was the best in the series.

You guys know shit about Halo. Halo 1 at its time of release was leaps and bound better and did things no other FPS did so far. Same as Half Life 2. Hell HL2 should be number 1.

Sorry but Halo 2 or 3 wasn't anywhere near the greatness of Halo 1.

Although I'm not a fan of Halo, I must say, Halo 2 was the best of the trilogy. And HL > HL2 by a margin, imo.

Ah, Goldeneye ... I spent many a day (*cough*weeks*cough*) having fun with that multiplayer mode.

    *bleep* goldeneye

trying to play a fps without 2 joysticks, or a mouse+keyboard simply doesn't work. especially with that idiotic n64 controller.

Nintendo-sixty-four-ever. I loved that console so much, still do.

Goldeneye is weak now. Amazing for it's time, but it has not stood the test of time like other FPS games. I still play the first (and best) Halo on PC - awesome game.

No Metroid Prime? That is a piece of crap.

    Jaw Knee Jun 14, 08
Metroid is actually considered a First Person Adventure game. But yeah, Golden Eye? I love the game, but it shouldn't be at number one.

    Nath Jun 14, 08
Yeah, Goldeneye was good as an N64 game, just as Halo is good for an Xbox game.

    Doom 3?

And there's no Deus Ex, which is just as much an FPS as Bioshock is.

Also, as much as I love Wolfenstein 3D, it's obviously inferior to most modern products.

Half Life 2 at number 8?

    Silly sods.

I agree with this for the most part. I haven't played Goldeneye since I was really young, so I doubt I could understand how revolutionary it was.

    Redemption Jun 14, 08
Well from an old school gamer's perspective - and mind you I haven't played all the titles, I feel that Half Life 1 was a superior overall experience than HL2, just because it was so innovative.

I also feel that leaving out Unreal 1 is a huge mistake, it pretty much pioneered several aspects of FPS including complicated scripted events triggered by players, an excellent player co-op capability, HUGE outdoor areas with a sky that looks literally like a sky with parallax on clouds, and hugely variant levels.

Quake 1 is a definite win but Doom3? Doom 1 and Doom 2 were more innovative for their time.

(I'm taking this from the single player perspective. For multiplayer I'd have to vote for Quake 2, Q3A, and CounterStrike).

Especially considering Doom 3 was a "reimagining" of Doom 1..

Perfect Dark, Turok 2, Bioshock, Doom and Half Life would make up my top 5 I think (in no order, though PD and Bioshock would be tied for first)..top ten would be filled by Quake, Doom 3, and..not sure what else.

    Armed Rebel Jun 14, 08
Needs Perfect Dark, Half Life 1.

I'd put Perfect Dark at #1 (I had so much fun with that game), Goldeneye at #2, then Half Life, then Counterstrike then Half Life 2. Whatever after that.

    black doom Jun 14, 08
I haven't checked the list yet but I say Doom and Goldeneye. Now to check.

Cool, wish I had gone with my gut and guessed Halo as well.

LOL people, what you need is a top 50, cuz all those games you want streched in a top10 don't simply fit in there.

    S v R 2010 Jun 14, 08
The list sounds about right, Resistance should be their though
    • -1
      Lost_Cause Jun 15, 08
Resistance is better than any of those 10, as well as others not listed (such as Half Life 1)?

      Yeah... no.

      LOLOLOL

Resistance amongst the top 10 FPS's of all time?

      Wtf have you been smoking?

    Seeker X Jun 14, 08
So Goldeneye's there but not its successor Perfect Dark which bested Goldeneye in EVERYTHING?
  • 2
    Aussie Legend Jun 15, 08
The original Perfect Dark also deserved a spot on there some, it was a game ahead of its time.

      chautemoc Jun 15, 08
I've still yet to see anything recreate its excellence. Most haven't even come close, including PD Zero. Just my opinion of course..but yeah, I have a deep-seeded passion for PD.

    weskraudaon Jun 15, 08
Resistance? I know that it was underrated but still, you can't say it was one of the best. And Goldeneye is not #1. Number 10 at best.
  • -1
    Matty1357 Jun 15, 08
    Goldeneye.
    xDD
It was good, but not #1 good.

    weskraudaon Jun 15, 08
I thought this was about the best, not the most innovative FPS games ever.

    Subzer0 Jun 15, 08
Ah... Counter Strike. Brings back memories. Defintely deserved a mention.

I would much rather play Golden Eye than any newer FPS games with the exception of Call of Duty.

It seems like Goldeneye has gotten old. I would think that Bioshock wouldn't be 10.
  • -1
    Rinkydink Jun 15, 08
Ah Goldeneye, what a legendary game that is. I feel that Perfect Dark should be on there since I liked that better than Goldeneye overall, but being there at that moment when Goldeneye first came to the N64 was just fantastic.

    Storm* Jun 15, 08
Goldeneye for #1, eh? I can't complain. They should have just added '(Series)' to some of these titles. CoD and CoD2 were kick-ass, yet only CoD4 is listed. Half-Life is amazing, yet only Half-Life 2 is listed...and...the first Doom is my favorite of the 'trilogy,' not listed.

Still, decent list, brings back memories.

How can you say Resistance shouldn't be their! It definitely should be in the top 10.
    • 0
      Donnelly Jun 16, 08
Resistance was alright, but nowhere near as good as any of the games mentioned there.

Is it as good as Half Life? Is it as good as Call of Duty 2? Is it as good as Perfect Dark? Is it as good as Bioshock (the game that would be knocked off the list)?

      No. No it isn't.

    pwned227 Jun 21, 08
I would have put HL2 lower on the list like around number 3.

      Donnelly Jun 21, 08
I would've put it at number 1 if I could.

In fact, I would put it higher if I could.
