Choose your own adventure with Mirror's Edge's 'Alternative Paths'

Linkin Park Fan | August 31, 2008 | Video | PC Playstation 3
The gameplay we have seen of Mirrors Edge so far has looked a little linear, which is odd because it is on a huge environment. So the devalopers showed off some of the 'atlternative paths' that you can take to deliver your package.

Were you entranced by the E3 footage of DICE's highly acrobatic action-platformer Mirror's Edge, but wished you could have seen more of the title's totalitarian cityscape? A recent developer walkthrough, showcased yesterday at PAX, might be right up your alley, over your catwalk, and onto your adjacent roof. Pop some Dramamine, then check out the video after the break to see some of the more unconventional tactics one can use to deliver a package. We just wish our trusty FedEx guy could perform l'art du déplacement with such intrepidness and grace.

alternate paths really only work on sandbox games for me... on games like this i could go 3 ways but theres only 1 end which defeats the propose of having alternate ways

Not if you can use them to make you go faster, i think the whole purpose of this game is time based running. Yes there is no timer or anything but you want to get there as fast and a stylishly as possible, the alternate routes are using more stylish and faster.

Deciding whether to slide under a pipe or over it isn't exactly what I'd call an alternate path.

This still shrieks linearity to me.
