Big, HUGE fan of the Monster Hunter games, and will get this, but am a little disappointed this isn't the more full blown experience I was expecting to see on a PS3....

Looks amazing so far, really looking forward to this. It's a pretty noticable step up from the previous Monster Hunter games, I wasn't expecting much at first. It really exceeded my expectations, I can't wait to see more.

What exactly do you mean by "full blown experience"? I don't see anything here that suggests anything less than that.

Something similar to what the Japanese enjoyed with the Monster Hunter PS2 releases, and was there in limited form (only ad hoc) for the PSP versions: "Easy to jump in" multiplayer, DLC, next gen graphics and sound utilizing the power of the PS3, real-time real-world weather effects (like what was in Black & White 2 for the PC), PSP support (remote play or being able to take your character with on on mini adventures, etc)... I agree, Gogetenks, this looks close, but IMHO isn't entirely there yet.

I played the PSP game and thought it was boring, but maybe this one will be better.

That's part of the problem, the game is boring without other people, heck, many of the higher end items are only obtainable if you had a friend, also with the game, and did missions together... That is what I'm looking for in a "full blown monster hunter experience" - I think it is moreso possible on the PS3. A central hub (*similar to the "town" in the PSP game) where people can easily join in and find other monster hunters to adventure with... almost like an "instanced" MMO... once you leave the hub with your party, you have your own personal areas to explore.

Zero - monster hunter is a great game with a lot of depth, just is a pain in the ass finding the fun because of the difficulty level and lack of interaction... needs improved social elements, and I think if they do a PS3 version, it could deliver and take MH out of the bargain bin and placed on more people's radars.

Hunting monsters for resources to make weapons and equipment, foraging for essential life saving items and things to improve your gear with = great concept... just Monster Hunter stumbles over itself with the difficulty curve and emphasis on teamplay, but doesn't deliver 100% on the tools to allow gamers to meet up and play.

There is an online hub (which is the desert town seen in screenshots) where you meet other players and form your four-player parties and explore the world. It should be easy enough to jump into. As far as DLC goes, that is still possible on the Wii (if you mean things like new weapons and equipment, larger DLC like new areas won't happen but I doubt they would have implemented that in a game like this) if they want to implement it. Regarding real-world weather effects, even the N64 was capable of them. If they want to implement it in MH3, they could, and being on the PS3 wouldn't have changed that. Considering the whole game is being reworked from the ground up, I doubt you would be able to carry your character with you into the PSP games.

Besides "next gen graphics and sound" (although the visuals are looking good), most of the things you are asking for are perfectly possible. We don't know much about the game yet, but Capcom can implement it if they choose to, and being on the Wii doesn't change that. You don't need to worry about this being a "bargain bin" release, it's one of Capcom's main games for 2009.
