Yahtzee delivers a powerful review of the ball to the wall piss your pants scary Dead Space. (no- seriously, it is legitimately piss your pants scary - ask tekmosis about his first encounter with the... well never mind that), but be prepared to laugh, cry, and if you do ultimately pickup the game - piss your pants.

I've only been playing it a few hours....am I supposed to be crapping myself yet? Cause I dunno if its just me, but its not at all "scariest game ever" like people are saying to me.....maybe I'm just really demented. Hehe.

Well seeing as the mainstream media is not usually that experienced with horror games...you get stuff like that. Game is gross and an overall shooting fun...but genuine scares are nowhere to be found...unless you need to take breaks everytime a monster ambushes you from behind or something...then you're *bleep*ed.

Yeah I've heard it from fellow gamers though..who are equally demented if not moreso..haha. So Im puzzled.

Agreed, found it the exact same way.

Mostly I was getting annoyed that they let me run, and when I'd run I'd just end up underneath the big monster, as it reveals itself. So I die instantly, and after a few of those I just said done, and sent it away. Oddly enough it never once scared me though, I sat watching blankly. I never felt a sense of dread or malice, like I did with Siren or Silent Hill 2.

We're entitled to our preferences. As much as I like Fatal Frame, for example, I honestly don't find that series scary at all.

It does seem to be well-made. Perhaps the PR just pushed the whole horror aspect too far. I was thinking maybe it'd get less crap if they'd advertised it as a "sci-fi thriller" instead of a survival horror.

That'd probably be more accurate, yup.
I think it's really well done..I hate DRM but I may buy it anyway..

I think Yahtzee is a little bit behind in the times when it comes to criticizing just this game for problems with horror being synonomous with "shock" rather than following through with the meaning of it's genre -- just about every horror these days is a gore and shock fest rather than actual horror which will eat at your very core. "Oh look, a random zombie hand just appeared and clawed off my face!" Just a continuation of the current trend with horror, imo -- that, and humanities odd attachment to zombies as of late...

He's not singling out Dead Space, it's just the only one mentioned in this review.

Probably because it's a review of Dead Space.

When I listed to what he was saying, the thing that popped to my mind is that he was talking about the lack of horror aspects as if they are prominent in most of our entertainment lately... which they aren't.
