As promised the new trailers for both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. These are the trailers that were shown during the Square Enix Party (DKS3713) are so show a fair amount of new footage, albeit still no gameplay/field test footage.

Now if you don't mind, I'm off to watch the trailers!

    I find the XIII trailer bizarre..doesn't really tell me anything. It's just like, 'hey, here's all the characters with some fancy orchestral music in the background'. Um..ok.

        I've seen a lot of FF trailers and I dug them all as far as I can remember. This one feels strung together, not cohesive.

        Edit: Versus..now there's a *bleep*in trailer.

    i have so much more respect for versus because its based in the real world.
    not a big fan of final fantasy but this game appeals to me so much because of that.

      The Versus trailer is like a film trailer, what with the zooming in and out of fonts and the fast forward to slo-mo etc etc.

    Final Fantasy XIII looks like it is going to turn out to be a beautiful game. The environments look amazing! I want to see more of the characters, especially the general looking chick who we only see the back of haha.

    Versus has some great graphics. Looks so realistic @_@ The music in the trailer is very much like something we would hear in Kingdom Hearts. That isn't a surprise though really

    Both games look great so far. Looking forward to them.

    I'm really looking forward to Versus ALOT more, Because it has the realistic world style, like ff7 did. And tbh i'm getting quite tired of the over-the-top design that FF13 seems to have.

    But come on, Crystals? Again?

        Seriously though, I think I'm going to have to agree with OV. Observing the characters' clothing and the designs of the structures, vehicles, airships and Aeons in XIII, it seems like SE was trying TOO HARD to make all the designs look bizarre and over-detailed.

        What does mainstream have to do with anything? Doesn't change the fact that crystals seem to be a story plot for most of them, Especially pre-7
        But on the top of my head, a giant crystal (pandora) was the the one of the main stories focuses of FF8, FF9 randomly became about a crystal at the end, And ff12 was all about obtaining crystals too although they were called some thing else~

        Point is, they need to think of new stuff tbh

          I don't even think you can mention FF8 or 9 when talking about Crystals. I've played both those plenty of times, none of them had crystals like FF13v has. Even FF12, which I believed you mean Espers, wasn't crystals. I really have no clue what you're talking about.

          are you a moron? in ff8, lunatic pandora was a giant crystal monolith that brought about the lunar cry. In ff9, Kuja breaks the crystal that all life came from, FF12 you go around to friggin temples and places looking for these crystal things (magicite), How the hell am i talking about the summons?

          I never said they didn't have Crystals, I said they didn't have crystals implemented within the gameplay like FF13v.

          The way it's incorporated in this game is brilliant and could be close to creatively different.

      Yoko Shimomura is the Versus composer if you were curious - She does the Kingdom Hearts series too.

      Both trailers had great music tbh.

    OMG!!! the versus XIII trailer was *bleep*ing brilliant its just pushing all the rigth buttons for me its a game i always wanted... its like they got FF7 and FF8 (my 2 favourite FF's) and put them together

    FFXIII looked good its like they put star wars and lord of the ring together but wasn't as good as versus imo

    Those were probably two of the greatest trailers I have ever seen for upcoming games. Not because the trailers themselves evoked emotion or were enjoyable to watch, but they each opened up a rich world and stunning looking characters and design philosophy. FFXIII has a brillant diverse world which seems to cunningly mix elements and design mechanics from FF7, FF8, and FF10. It looks bloody beautiful and whether you like Final Fantasy games or not, surely people can acknowledge the sheer beauty and attention to detail. Oh and Snow looks awesome.

    FFvXIII looks just as fantastic! It seems to portray a more simplistic world but the characters and designs look awesome. Although FFXIII has propelled to my favourite of the two somehow thanks to such a rich detailed trailer.

    And Cruxis, you have propelled to my favourite person on Gamegrep for those trailers and your other Final Fantasy related articles. Much Love <3

    He sums up my feelings rather well. Repeating everything I said regarding the trailers would only get me killed by the 10984320403974 fans who enjoyed them wholeheartedly.

    I will say that the 2nd trailer does more for me than the first, and not just because they had nonsensical English translations and quoted Shakespeare... and we all know the only thing cooler than quoting Shakespeare is CAPS LOCK. Things proceeded in a logical order, which tempts me as a gamer to find out more.

    But really, who can resist a good bromance?

    VS XIII looks like it will be THE rpg of the year next year(or when ever it's released). That trailer was epic! Noctis looks like he could potentially make people finally forget about Cloud when ever Final Fantasy is mentioned.

    OMG FINALLY I cant wait for versus. That just looks so Fucing awesome. Producers, graphic designers, music writers, game developers from VII, the greates Final Fantasy game, and from the whole Kingdom Hearts series. I am going to LOVE this game. Fuc yeah.

    Crux, I don't necessarily hate Nomura, I just find his directorial ventures lacking. And since Versus looks to be more or less Advent Children - belts + more black, I'm still not all that impressed with it. BUT, since people are tripping over themselves in regards to the music, and I enjoy Yoko Shimomura's work, I will watch the trailer.

    After I get a trailer for The 3rd Birthday.

    Anyway, I quite enjoyed the FFXIII trailer, even if I did feel like I was watching a Star Wars trailer. The environments are stunning, there's a diverse range of vehicles. Dinosaurs are always a plus, flying dragon thingies. An Ifrit that actually looks like a fire demon, as opposed to a dog that some cruel bastard lit on fire... All in all, at least it looks visually solid. Not to mention, Masashi Hamauzu once again makes me melt. Urgh, epic music is epic.

    But seriously, Internet. How could you snub The 3rd Birthday? D:

    Well personally I was sold on both these titles from the get-go so these trailers, while looks awesome, doesn't change anything for me.

    But I just found the FF13 trailer to be more fanboyish. Reason, check the last few minutes of the trailer:
    "For Playstation 3", i'm sorry where's the mention for 360? I mean fair enough if this was shown from the PS3 side, but at least give a mention to the 360 version, and not make a statement like the FF13v stating "For PS3 only" type deal. Maybe i'm reading into it much, but I really would like to see the FF13 trailer to show both versions then just PS3. After skimming through the posts, I'm surprised no one picked up on it.

    Actually this is part of the game, unless you mean combat/user play, then I don't think there's much reason to show much of it anyway. Developers don't want to spoiler things too early nowadays, just check FF12? There was a shit storm of trailers and that game didn't live up to most eyes. Even the developers on God of War 2 was upset with themselves even Cory, that they showed a little too much combat play and story which sorta ruined a little bit for some fans.

    But again, just for the record, this is GAMEPLAY, I think me and other stated the same about GTA4 trailers. All of this is coming directly from the game itself, thus called GAMEPLAY or Playing game. What you're talking about it combat videos, which again I don't really see a rush to get that out. I think it ruins part of the game experience since you know what to expect. Like if I've seen alot of videos on combat or player videos on playing the game, i'd know what to expect and when I see it, I'll be like "Oh yea I remember this". Instead of "WOW this is awesome; Just superb."

    If you get what I mean.

    Anyway, great video's I think people should be excited for these games.

        I know, but the game itself isn't exclusive, thus makes the whole statement seem like a fanboyish one. I just didn't like how it was stated towards the end, and I know had someone actually picked up on it earlier, like me, there would be debates over it. Had it state "Only for PS3 for Japan" I can see that making more sense then "Only for PS3".
        As I said I'm probably reading too much into it, I just didn't like how it was presented at the end.

      Don't you mean if FF13v comes to the 360, heads will roll? As it was stated, Nomura is a PS3 fanboy, as Itagaki is a 360 fanboy, so it won't be ported. It's exclusive.

    When these people come together, many things tend to happen. That Infinite Undiscovery looks fricken awesome. But its only on the 360. These people change tons of things. I love all there game, but I just cant help but laugh at the "Only for PS3". In your face fanboys of 360.

    The versus trailer looked great. I especially like the setting and all.

    Also, I noticed that one of the characters in the trailer looked like Zack Fair a bit. Hmm...

      No confirmed dates for NA or PAL yet, but;

      FFXIII - CONFIRMED for JAPAN in 2009

      FFversusXIII - no idea, 2010 maybe?

          I highly doubt a 2009 release for Versus.

          Versus is much further behind than FFXIII in terms of development and FFXIII is already scheduled to be released around that period.

          Even if both games were close in development, I high doubt Square would release 2 of their premiere titles together in such a small time frame.

      Oh, you know how it is. When you say us, they will surely interpret that as "People who can get into the Closed Mega Theatre" and leave the rest of us out in the cold.

      But "we" will see some next weekend at Jump Festa, if Nomura is to be held to his word.

      I wonder what their PR department does for the 350 days a year where nothing happens...

      Let me reiterate the point, THIS IS GAMEPLAY. You want combat system user play, which I don't think they should rush. But with that said, I'd like to see how it works.

      People really don't understand what gameplay means.

        These trailers are four months old. Nomura made the comment less than four months ago. If the trailers are old, what would be the point in making a comment on seeing gameplay by the end of the year?

        Also, my definition of gameplay is parts of the game you play, not in-game cutscenes.

          Yes, but that's a misconception that many have. The actual definition of gameplay is anything that is played within the game. That also includes cutscenes. As I alluded playing game. You want the combat system user videos, which as I said pretty much ruins the enjoyment of the game imo.
          For my example above:

          The little I know about the user combat play, but know it's from FFX devs and same as the old, that's enough for me. That's not to say I don't want to see it, no, but I think showing too much of them does ruins the fun factor. Remember FF12? How many of those combat system videos came out? IIRC like 12+ and most fans didn't like the gameplay. Devs nowadays, like God of War team and Cory Barlog admitted of showing too much of them which ruins the game experience for fans.

          Meh, semantics. It's obvious what I meant. I want to see parts of the game you can play. Not just in-game cutscenes (we've seen enough of them in the countless scans that have been released). Battles, exploring the locations, even simple walking from one place to another would be good enough at this point. I don't think a few glimpses of that is too much to ask 2 years after the game was announced.

          XIII isn't impressing me much. We saw a goodly amount of that footage already, and it isn't really THAT graphically amazing....It isn't really amazing, period. Maybe it is just the crappy youtube video though...

          Versus XIII looks awesome, but I'm sure that is pre-rendered footage (which I'm not against, I like seeing that stuff, and prefer they keep it that way). That girl in the beginning looks a bit like Aerith crossed with Quistis...And that looks to be the opening credits (I see some persons involved were involved in Kingdom Hearts series). I hope that the rendered footage looks good too (I'm sure it will). It doesn't have a date (XIII has 2009), so I wonder if it will be 6 or so months after XIII, in early 2010 or something?
