Blizzard has kicked off a 'Battle Report' for StarCraft II -- basically staff matches with commentary. You can check the video out at the source.

The two players in this Protoss vs. Terran match are associate game balance designers Matt Cooper and David Kim; commentary is provided by Dustin Browder and Robert Simpson from e-Sports.

The game is currently in alpha, and as always, has no release date (though Canadian retailer Futureshop has it as May 31, 2009, for some reason, while GameStop just says no date has been announced yet).

    People are speculating a Q3/Q4 2009 launch.

I caught this a couple days ago, and it was quite disappointing. They certainly knew what to do on paper, they just couldn't execute as well as an above-average gamer. The Protoss player only had like 3 Gateways the whole time.

YellOw vs Sonkie was much better. YellOw is a Starcraft pro-gamer while Sonkie is a great WC3 player.

Dustin Browder's commentary was awesome (and should be, since he's the lead designer), but Robert Simpson obviously didn't know what the hell he was doing.

Pretty interesting, some of the commentary was way to over the the top at points though. The way they were yammering with the probe at the start, I felt like I was listening to football hosts.

That's exactly how it should be, since Starcraft is the top competitive game around the world. Everything, from commentaries to team contracts are taken as serious as real sports. And if you think that was over the top: How many times can you catch the word "Reaver" in the last 3 seconds?

English, Chinese and German SC commentators talk with the same level of excitement too, it's just that particular Korean commentator pulled out the gosu mouth micro.

Browder and Simpson were pretty tame throughout the match. Honestly though, even I could replace Simpson and do much better than him, with no broadcast experience.
