Squaresoft's SaGa series has long been the little-known counterpart to the Final Fantasy name in the West (though it went under this guise with a the Gameboy FF Legend titles), but it's definitely a series worth visiting (some might even argue moreso).

Well, Square Enix has put together a video giving us 20 years of SaGa in light of its anniversary, which is a great way to introduce yourself. Check it out below.

The series has been out of commission since 2005's well-received remake Romancing SaGa, but it was revealed in Shonen Jump recently a 3D remake of Final Fantasy Legend II (SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu) is planned for this year.

Actually there was also "Romancing SaGa" for the PS2 after Unlimited SaGa, though that was a remake of the first SNES SaGa game. I understand it was a lot better than Unlimited, and from my own experience it was probably one of the more innovative RPGs on the PS2 w/o being too out there like the SaGa Frontier series was. Too bad Romancing SaGa wasn't better received.

The series definitely had some memorable soundtracks though!

Wikipedia lied to me I think, hehe. Edited, thanks.

I really liked Legend II, so I'm really looking forward to this. Lots of areas to improve on to make this a great title.
