Games We Love but Wish We Could Love Playing

First ever details of SOCOM on the PS3 straight from Sony's Gamers Day 2007 event. First footage and screenshots revealed!
The game will ship with 5 maps, there will be no vehicles, it's going to be online multiplayer only, and will be available for download from the Playstation Store.
Hey SOCOM fans: You might want to sit down for this one. You know how you've been disappointed by how the series has drifted further and further from its roots? You know how the addition of vehicles, enormous maps, and Battlefield-style play modes have seemed to dilute the pure, tense tactical experience of the original game? You know how you've complained to Sony and Zipper about the perils of trying to make the series too accessible, too mainstream?
They were listening.
When franchise head Seth Luisi took the stage at a Sony press event earlier this week to show SOCOM Confrontation, he made it clear that this SOCOM is for you -- the fans of the original SOCOM experience. "The gameplay in SOCOM Confrontation," says Luisi, "is what we like to call 'intimate 32-player team-based combat.'" You may deduce from this statement that Confrontation will be online multiplayer only. You would be correct -- and what's more, the game will initially be available as a download from the PlayStation Store (with a retail release hitting as well, potentially in a collector's-style package or Bluetooth headset bundle similar to what we're expecting from Warhawk).

SOCOM doesn't thrive with bigger maps/more players. It thrives more on complex maps, and average amount of players.
Never played Socom 1 or 2, but have 3 and 4. Love 'em both, and love the online, giant uber maps, and vehicles. Can't imagine what the online was like in 1 or 2, suffice to say I don't own any similar military online games that aren't stamped by EA.
Still a bit dissapointed how this is turnin' out to be a minigame. I'd prefer a complete game with the campaign and online multi'. Especially since Combine Assault added the co-op campaign feature via online. It's very popular, and is quite fun.
Extra space is mostly Sniper bait, vehicles were nice, but easy to abuse with...totally kills the tactics, and the thing about a big team is that you have to wait till someone wins to finally play again. Personally, I wouldn't blame them if they didn't want to continue with the Campaigns, I think they were great, but with the Military games coming out, they probably outshine SOCOM.
