A "long suffering" woman wants to know why her boyfriend plays so many games, so ex-model, actress and TV star Tyra Banks and co-host of X-Play Morgan Webb try to "decode" male gamers and attempt to help this woman's boyfriend with his gaming "problem". It's painful to watch.

I don't know about anyone else, but my suggestion would be to tell the girlfriend to *bleep* up and accept her boyfriend's harmless hobby. Relationships are a two-way street, after all.
Maybe she could even *gasp* play video games with him!

God this is such trash. If any girl tried to "decode" me I'd promptly inform her she's been watching far too much Tyra, reading far too much Cosmo, and her only salvation at this point would be a lobotomy.
It's also really condescending, the age thing. God, *bleep* these people.
There is no "decoding" required. GAMES ARE FUN YOU *bleep*ING IDIOTS.

    Uh . . . I think this was staged. I don't think this couple is having this issue . . .

In any case, if someone does wind up spending hours each and every day . . . unless they are in school and haven't any other responsibilities, does verge on leaving a "hobby" and moving into obsession. I say that cautiously though because I can see adults who go to work and do have time to spend playing games every day. The question though is . . . how much time each day? And does your video game time take away from something else such as family, friends, and relationships? Any hobby can end up being an obsession, which is unhealthy.

Hobbies should be something you enjoy doing when you have free time, not something that you mold your schedule around and it takes first place over more important things in life . . . such as life.

Yeah, the girl seemed pretty fake, which makes it even more stupid.
Agreed on the rest, but it has nothing to do with gender whatsoever.

And that's why I stay away from talk shows. Dude, wtf is this: "23, so not 13." Educate yourself in the gaming industry and community, Tyra, before you tease the guy like that.

"Gaming goddess?" EPIC FAIL. Bring in Adam Sessler. To be fair, it sounds SO ridiculous that I'm wondering if Webb is just intentionally making fun of Tyra and her audience with this horseshit.

Seriously though. The girl friggin works for G4. Why would she be such a tool?

        RabidChinaGirl May 19, 09
Call me sexist, but I have a sneaky suspicion a lot of those modeling-agency-rejects with gigs at G4 are only there because they have breasts, and the hardcore girl gamer/nerd persona is simply a fabrication carefully constructed by show writers and lots of PR.

I'm still hoping she said all that just to *bleep* with the audience.

Hell, that theory is plausible, to say the least. It's no different than people working in Gamestop. They may be good with managerial positions and inventory, but many of them don't know anything about games. With hosts, you put a pretty face in front of the camera who knows how to speak clearly, and voila, instant attention for your network.

Man, that was a bit one sided. They really should have looked into the situation more. Like, what do they do when he's not playing games? Or what does she want him to do other than play the games? It's been my experience that some people take the term "spending time together" to mean "do the stuff I want to do." In order to meet half-way, they should do things that fun for both.

Oh yeah I know it's safe in the sense that there isn't any porn (SHUCKS!!!) but I can't turn my volume up too loud, as my office isn't very well sound proofed. LOL I have heard a bit about the movie, she's one of my Myspace buddies.

Think I might release a video called "decode a faker", in otherwords the "girlfriend" can't act the role she is playing, her body language is awkward and rigid like she just read a script 5 seconds before hitting the stage. Her eye movement is irratic for someone telling the truth.

Although while typing this I am listening to the "gaming goddess" and I lol'd, sure every man wants to be the hero, that's why I play as the german or evil guy everytime or the neutral guy with evil tendancies...yet I don't want to be a villian IRL...the reason why she "thinks" this is because the games are designed to make the player feel good and better after a gaming session. That's why the Game Over screen doesn't mock you and call you silly names, instead it annoys you, it pumps you up and so you go for round 2 to show the AI a thing or two about human determination.

Either way it's quite amusing to watch talkshows like this or even back in the day of Jerry Springer and able to spot the fakers from the actual truth speakers (yes half of that show was fixed XD)

But yeah wouldn't let it bother you, just X-play and Tyra trying to win a crowd since last I checked, X-play aren't in the media as much these days and neither is Tyra
    • 0
      chautemoc May 19, 09
Pretty sure all of Springer and shows like it were fixed. I remember seeing a documentary about the process -- people just phone in and they tell them what 'roles' they have available.

Ahahaha Tyra Banks trying to decode anything is just hilarious. She should go back to being a lifeless mannequin instead of trying so hard to salvage some use of her brain. I heard those things can get RROD if you think too much, Tyra.

Also, how embarassing must it be for the guy to have to sit through that crap as if being put on trial in front of a completely female audience?

    As Janice from friends:
    *OH MY GOD!!!*

Is it me or is Morgan Webb know nothing really about games? I don't care if she co-hosts X-Play, from that, it showed that she knows nothing except the fact that she believes games have a major influence on us... so what will she say about the girl gamers out there that play games such as Halo and the likes?

Come on.Unless you're a boring guy, we play all types of games.I love games in which you blow people in half or blow their faces off the most, yet going by MW I should like fantasy games the most as I'm a caring, emotional loving guy.

The only way you can "decode" a guys (or a woman's for that matter) personality is to get to know the guy, not by looking at what video games he plays.

Hey, I think I fit the bill for all of the gamers you described. WHAT THE *bleep* AM I MORGAN!?

Seriously this is garbage, people have enough labels as it is, we don't need more of then damnit.

    Daweii May 20, 09
I can see the confusion now... Girls all round the country running into their boyfriends gaming area to look at his games...

"Wooo he's caring, oh wait he's a warrior.. what the.. he's a goal digger!! What am i dating, Morgan Webb told me i'd be able to decode him through 3 simple and bad stereotypes.. I'm more confused now.."

Fact is gamers play all sorts of games and at the end of the day Role Playing Games aren't all fantasy, i mean come on Fallout yeah i am caring because i care about how many limbs i blow off my opponent. I own sports games, i own fighting games and shooters, a gamer to me is someone that likes a vast variety of games regardless of genre. "Decoding" shouldn't happen, people should just take their hobby and accept it like guys accept the female fascination with handbags, fake nails, shoes and clothes they don't need... Same shit different context.

    Key to television on gaming:

    1)Mock gamers older than teenagers

    2)Use stereotypes

3)Fill the audience and actors with females and don't let the man say more than five words.

I wish to kill the girl from x-play, its probably a crappy show considering she doesn't have a *bleep*ING CLUE about gaming.

Elves and orcs in a fantasy game MAYBE.

But talk about a princess being stolen and you should get your ass back to super mario.

You know maybe the guys girlfriend would stop being so goddamn selfish and actually let him play the games without whining. Me and my girlfriend play games alot together, including Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2 and Guitar Hero. ITS NOT HARD =|

I don't really like X-Play anymore -- used to, but then they made it over and now it looks like every other show, all flash. Makes Morgan's voice harder to tolerate. Sessler is a god no matter what though. The only good thing on G4 anymore in my opinion really is Sessler's Soapbox.

Honestly I've never been so aggravated watching a TV show before this. I overlooked this article but then I wanted to know what the fuss was about when I read the comments. That video was a bunch of crap honestly. And that X-play 'expert', whatever her name is, does she think she's a psychologist or something? I couldn't sit there being made to look like a fool while someone who barely knows anything about modern gaming'decodes' me.

Im not even going to get started on Tyra.
    • 0
      HisServant77 May 20, 09
You probably COULD sit there being made to look like a fool, if you were paid a good deal of money and you don't really care much about video games. Then, you wouldn't be offended or feel like a fool at all because it's all a show . . . and you get paid (at least I hope the people were paid, and not just paid with the whole "You get to be on TV!")

    Dine_Agoti May 21, 09
What exactly makes Morgan Webb suitable for such psychological assessments? The fact that she has a vagina and (allegedly) plays video games? What standards.
    • 3

For all we know she could only allegedly have a vagina as well.

Nah...she looks that guy and cares about him. If it was another girl, she must have broken up with the guy already. But she cares, so I think that means something. And he should fit her on his schedule.

women dont understand guys just like guy dont understand them. look i take care of what i need to and then i play whats wrong with that.
You want to know whats funny is that when you arent playing the girl doesnt want any thing just for you to be bored like her
