Video game developer Level-5 with its Team Layton group has released the third commercial for the upcoming anime film based on the company's widely successful Professor Layton series: Layton Kyouju to Eien no Utahime, which translates to Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva.

We still don't know much of the plot, but the characters Flora, Don Paolo, and Inspector Chelmey, who were introduced in the series' first game, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, will be shown in the movie. Level-5 President Akihiro Hino is writing the movie's story, and will be produced by Pokémon film producer Masakazu Kubo.

Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva will premiere in Japan in January 2010. You can view the movie's official site here.

The film is completely independant from the games, right?

That's a bit of a bummer, but you can't beat the style.

Yeah, the film story is going to be separate from the stories that are in the games.
