Nice music, but I remember that tech demo looking so much cleaner than this.

Still, it's looking amazing, so what does that matter?

It's still essentially the best looking game ever made. I mean the video (off cam) on IGN shows more gameplay and the dialogue, voice work, lip syncing and overall graphics was some of the most impressive I have ever seen. I have seen hollywood animated movies with visuals worse than Heavy Rain.

This is one of those games I would actually buy a PS3 for. Got to try it at SDCC -- wasn't bad at all.

How did you find the controls? The editor at IGN had a hard time with the walking at first constantly walking into things, forgetting he needed to drive the character like a car in a racing game. After a while he adjusted but it did seem to catch him off guard. Did you have any such difficulties?

Sounds a bit RE style. xD

Game is looking great, though. Trailer definitely bumped this up from a 'maybe rent' to a solid 'rent.'

You'd probably need more than a rent to complete this game. It is said to be massive, the amount of script that was written was enough to satisfy over 12 three hour movies as the script was 20,000 pages long. This is more than a rent.

Most people there were struggling with the controls, but it was a late Sony party so most people were also... drunk.

I thought they were alright. I assumed that given more time, I would get used to them. The IGN editor's description is not inaccurate, however.

Ah that sounds alright. I assume the same that it'll be easy to adjust, I just do not think many gamers will give it that time.

Think Lair, and you might just have your answer to that, Daweii.

It's most likely like Indigo Prophecy, all of the work would be to branch off all your choices and whatnot. I mean they did show off that you could continue the game with other characters should yours die in the middle of the game...that's pretty damn awesome.

This is an instant buy for me really. Hope the action sequences are just like they left them when they showed those first gameplay vids. Here's also hoping the plot doesn't turn a fantasy/supernatural/end of ze world kind of thing...that just threw me off.

Love the music and the way it looks, not a huge fan of the guy's voice

He's just one of four characters in the game anyway.

I'm really hoping that this game does well sales wise. It's a risky move coming out with a game that so different in terms of what's selling right now.

With every movie I see, I want this game more and more; this particular character trailer is no different. It gives a kind of 1984 vibe... (60 year old spoiler) how Winston pretty much was destroyed when he said he'd rather have the rats eat her than him.

im now more excited for this game than the last guardian, artistically and story-wise anyway. Both will be a day one purchase for me, but I now im going to play through this game atleast 20 times just for different story lines.

you thought silent hill was awesome with its 5 endings, heavy rain will have 500 endings(random guess)

Everything you do in the game changes the story. So the actual ending could change thousands of times over the course of the game. It'll certainly be one where you will talk to a friend that has it and he/she'll be like "wow when I played that area mine was different but two areas previous I did climb through the window instead of going in through the door" anything you do in this game changes the outcome of not only the scene but the whole game.

I've been trying to avoid this game because I've been so iffy on the way the controls are and it didn't look like something I'd get used to. I'm going to have to buy this so I can at least watch someone else playthrough, the stories just seem so interesting.

Am I one of the few people who didn't like Indigo Prophecy, and who fails to see why everyone is so excited for this game? That trailer does nothing for me.

I completely agree..honestly the whole game looks like one giant quick time event. I didn't like that in IP and I know I won't like it here.

well, its different than indigo prophecy because there are no game overs. in indigo prophecy if you screw somethig up you have to re do it....and indigo prophecy's story went kind of crazy in the end. Heavy rain seems like it will stay realiastic.

@absolute. yes there are a ton of QTE in heavy rain, but there is not penalty for failing them, in fact there is an incentive in most cases. So the QTE's are more like a dialogue tree in Mass effect, except in additon to dialogue, there are also actions.

        RabidChinaGirl Aug 23, 09
Well you could actually die by failing some QTE... as we saw during the SDCC demo, playable during Sony's party Thursday night. The story goes on, but that specific character was obviously cut from it. The particular sequence that you could try was not very difficult, but most people were drunk. XD

I'll be perfectly honest. The graphics look excellent, and the story and dialogue does too. But unfortunatly, it just looks like a movie that you press buttons in.

I want to enjoy it, but I can't get that thought out of my head.

Personally you do control the character a fair amount think of it as an action adventure where you can walk around and do everything you desire. Yes there are the QTE's but even those are left free I mean you are essentially the director of a movie. If you miss a button press no big deal the animation changes and you have to do better next time. Think about the creativity if you perposfully missed the button press to up tension or to make the scene more exciting. Sure another combat style could have been used but it wouldn't evoke the same tension. That is the developers intention, when you have a gun to your head and the speech is rushing around because your character is stressed and you know one wrong move could be your last it's a tense proposition. That is the developers intention they want people to breath a sigh of relief after a near fatal encounter, get the adrenaline flowing and their QTE style of gameplay will work for doing that.

yes. Very true. The style of gameplay enhances the story so much more, than you could any other way. and the fact that if a screw up, things are stuck like that, that is going to make those tenseful situations all the better.

the footage of the robbery in the convenice store on GameTrailers is great. the dev explained 5 different scenarios that 3 min part of the game can play out. and what happens if the store clerk dies? do you never get that piece of evidence? do you run into the robber later on in the game? do you recoginze him?

I think the biggest consequence obviously is death as it will end the story arc for that character completely. The decisions aren't always life and death but there will be some where death is an option if you make the wrong choices. It is very good the way they are doing it though. I hope that somewhere they have the mental health feature from Indigo Prophecy as it would add more depth to say leaving the store clerk to die. I also believe there may be as in the trailer above shows the protagonist Ethan Mars commiting suicide by dropping off a building. So I believe some of the options you take may have a positive and negative effect on your mental health.
