Yes and no, say some comparison videos that hit YouTube yesterday. Here is a video showing the comparison between the regular PS3 and PS3 Slim's speed. Both consoles have the same settings and harddrives, so there's hardly a difference in speed anyway...

Go to the source for more comparison videos.

Sony’s much vaunted PS3 Slim is practically released, allowing curious testers to make the shocking discovery that the slimline version is actually slower than the corpulent original.

The comparison videos (at the source) demonstrate the apparent differences.

Wait on the second video the Slim was a bit faster. Well in any case, the speed isn't substantial enough to deter me from buying a Slim.

Yeah . . . Let me say it too. Obviously the second show the slim being faster . . . So . . .? Um . . . How does this show the Slim is slower?

My guess is, it's just a random fluctuation. Sometimes it'll be faster, other times it'll be slower. There are too many variables to test it really. The ways the games are made and loaded, the HDD, the condition of the components in the PS3 . . . and I bet multiple PS3 Slims would have different results too.

Yeah, they seem pretty much the same.

Maybe its because his Slim was brand new and the old one had been used a bit before and so had dust etc. But it was a marginal increase.

Also how come the Slim didn't have that little "playstation" flash when it started the game? That looked quite cool.

In all honesty who cares? If you have the slim or original PS3 as long as it does the job then it's all good.
