Fox News is at it again. This time they held a "fair and balanced" debate on whether or not the terrorism level in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was going too far and whether the game itself is too violent.

[Discuss in the Modern Warfare 2 forum]

For more Fox silliness, take a look at their Mass Effect report, their America's Army: Special Forces report, and their report that blames a baby's death on video games.

Call me crazy, but I think the guy defending the game made it sound bad, while the guy protesting the game made it sound good.

Of course! Fox isn't stupid; they'd never allow anyone capable of coherent debate to defend gaming onto their shows.

Speaking of which, what the hell is slashgamer.com?

        Miss Razz Nov 12, 09
Funny how it works like that. God forbid they get a guy like Adam Sessler or another game reporter because he *gasp* might actually be good at public speaking and getting a valid point across.

"It's not real! It's not real! It's not real!" isn't exactly the most compelling argument. It just made the slashgamer guy sound like a crazy man.

Lol, who knows? Fox probably picked the most violent-sounding game site they could find.

Wow, didn't they learn their lesson from the whole Mass Effect sex scene thing where they don't do their friggin' research on what they're talking about ?

    • The whole mission itself is optional.
    • Your character is doing it as an undercover operative for the CIA. If anything, this mission brings into question what government agents can and cannot do when they're undercover.
    • Modern Warfare 2 is rated M for a reason. An 8-year-old shouldn't be playing this game in the first place.

By that logic, porn lets 8 year olds be porn stars.

Have we already forgotten the wonders of Rape Lay?

Edit: Did Fox talk about this game? CNN did; pinned it on gaming in general like Rape Lay was the norm or something.

Speaking of Mass Effect...I don't see what the uproar was about unless people were jealous of the human getting it on with a blue alien.

So yeah...there I was, playing through the game waiting for this "explicit...zomg...mind blowing sex scene"...25 hours...25 hours with tissues at the ready to find a blue blurry humanoid shape flashing about on the screen for a few seconds...I mean...if that's a definition of a sex scene then by god a movie premiere must be a god damn orgy to these idiots

      Seproth Nov 12, 09
That's exactly the point. Nobody could see what the uproar was about. It was just blind ignorance spewed forth as bile from Fox news.

Who, by the way were pissed at Sesame Street for having a Pox News reference on their show. How anyone could possibly listen to anything at all that they have to say after all these things, is quite beyond me.

I'm a crappy speaker (my youtube vids would attest to that -_-) but even I could defend the game somewhat.

Like, things called 'facts' and 'common sense'....I'd probably confuse the people at FOX though, they probably would need a dictionary to figure out what that means....Speaking of which, they really ought to look up "quality" and "reporting" and find a way to apply the two together.

He's kind of right, though. You play the role as a terrorist in the game. 8-year-olds play the game. 8-year-olds can become terrorists. He corrected himself to make sure he was referring to becoming a terrorist in the game and not in the streets.

Listen. I'm not a Neo Con. But that mission was a very graphic one. It may be emotional and bring up deep thoughts of morality to me and others who play it, but to an 8-year-old? I'd actually be slightly disturbed seeing an 8-year-old orgasm throwing grenades at and headshotting civilians in a game like this.

I'm just a sensitive person, though. The host certainly could have done better representing the game, but when you compare it to the Mass Effect bullshit, he DEFINITELY could have done worse. It's a controversial part of the game and to not acknowledge WHY that is and see the validity to the other side, to me, seems like an odd thing to do.

If 8 year olds are playing the game then there is something wrong with today's society and the way parents are raising their kids. Fair enough I am against sheltering a child completely or wrapping them up in cotton wool but if 8 year olds are playing a teen rated game without supervision, then there is a problem.

However if a child is supervised then I can't see a problem and it is up to the parent to state what their child can and cannot play, no one else.

For me...my personal view is that this world as it is today has too many rights and has allowed political correctness to rule the way we live. This goes to prove it...yes IW are close to the knuckle on this one but...come on! When will people realise that it isn't a game that makes people do crazy stuff but the person themselves?

      ...

      ...

      ...

      ... wait, you were serious?

Of course it's not something for 8 year olds and of course kids are impressionable and shouldn't be playing the game. The point is, the game has an age rating so it's the responsibility of the parent or guardian to make sure an impressionable 8 year old who may become affected by the scenes doesn't go near it.

It's as simple as that. If someone finds that too hard to understand, they have no right to think of themselves as any form of journalist.

As much as I usually like Fox, they are, as usual, totally off base with games, as are most mass media outlets (Not just Fox)

Plain and simple, 8 year-olds should not be playing these games.

Stop challenging game developers on their morals and start placing blame where blame is due; the parents.

"Muuuuuuummmmm, can you drive me to terrorist training?"
    "Yeah, sure-- Wait, what?"
"Sorry. Can you PLEASE drive me to terrorist training?"
    "Good boy, let's go."

And in the end, it's always the parent's fault.

I just got done watching G4TV.com's Feedback, and Adam Sesslar mentioned being offered to appear on Fox to talk about this very subject but apparently it was too early in the morning for him. Pretty lame, Adam would of done so much better than that amateur.
