Square Enix has finalized a lawsuit against the Phantom Entertainment Group, a talent agency, for replicating live-action scenes of the movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in Korean pop singer Ivy's music video "Temptation of Sonata".

Square Enix today announced that on June 22nd, 2007, it filed a copyright infringement lawsuit with the Seoul Central Court against Phantom Entertainment Group and Mr HONG Jeong-ho.
The complaint alleges that Phantom, a Korean talent agency, used live-action replicas of scenes from the Square Enix CG-animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in Korean singer Ivy's music-videos, without obtaining permission from Square Enix.

omg that is hilarious. Such a blatant rip off. I don't see how they didn't expect this to happen. What, did Phantom Entertainment Group not think that Squeenix didn't have an eye on what's going on in Korea?

Yes it is a rip off. But you have to admit its a cool video, that show you what a human version of FF7 AC would look like lol. I like the song in all, if only they had asked SE they wouldnt be getting pwned by them.

They ripped off Fur Elise, too, but I'm pretty sure the copyright's long dead on that one. The composer certainly is.

What they were thinking? They should at least try to obtain permission from Square.. But that was strangely funny XD

HAH! Thats the funniest thing i've seen in a long time lol. Did they actually think it was subtle enough for square not to notice?

Wow, great job on recreating it D:

I would feel like a total bad-ass if I was fighting in a scene like this.

I must admit, they did an awesome job at recreating it. It's definitely fun to watch ^^
Too bad they didn't ask for permission to do it >_>

The beginning is awful though: "Hey, hey, hey. Look at the hottie y'all."
    "Woah, you know her?"
    "Her name is Ivy."
    "Woah ... Iva?"
"No man, I to the V to the Y"

    Ugh! WTF!

Obviously she should have asked Square Enix for permission first, but seriously, screw them. Music Videos are a form of art, and replicating an animated movie with real actors is definitely an interesting and artistic idea. They gave credit to the actual movie, so I don't really see a problem. And it's not like it's going to hamper movie sales.

    Square-Enix blows.

Well, controversy aside, I think whoever owns the rights to Beethovan's Fur Elise should also sue Ivy.

(Side for the fact that once the composer and/or last copyright holder has been dead for 50 years American Law allows that music to be public domain. Not sure of that fact over-seas though)

Wow, that's just...sad. I bet they'd say it was a coincidence, lol. Sucks to be 'Ivy' right about now.

    I love Ivy's manager's excuse...
It was something like "I couldn't get in contact with Squeenix, so I assumed it would be okay to make this video"

Haha! Surely he could have come up with something better than that. XD XD

The production company certainly put some degree of effort in recreating the FFVIIAC footage which they "borrowed"; I do believe that the video does note its source material towards the beginning before the actual song begins. Still doesn't excuse the studio for using the material without express permission though.

Honestly, they would have been better off making it in vein of a spoof.

You know, that Ivy chick looks kinda hot recreating Tifa.

Either way, I feel bad for her, they should have asked for permission first, but I think Square Enix are taking it to the ass. I mean, I would kinda be a little proud and yet laughing my ass of if they tried to recreate a scene from a movie that I made. I would be a little upset that they didn't ask first, but I wouldn't sue just yet. XD
