Keighley defends Mass Effect on FOX .... or attempts to !

Gothic Girl | January 22, 2008 | Video | XBOX 360
It's always sad when FOX News interviews people in the gaming industry, because you know it will end up a mess. Recently FOX interviewed gaming journalist Geoff Keighley and a psychology 'expert' about the "nudity", "sex scenes" and "objectifying of women" in Mass Effect, and although Geoff sets the record straight and brings up some good points, both psychologist and interviewer don't seem to take him seriously.
But let's face it, this is FOX News ... what were we expecting?

"Fair and balanced" FOX News completely misrepresents the sex scene in Mass Effect.

Talking without knowing anything about the game and trying to bash it is bad. It's like saying a movie is porn because you see one nude scene and nothing else?

Ffs, ffs, ffs, ffs, ffs, FOR *bleep*S SAKE! God I'm glad Fox doesn't really exist in Australia. teodortenchev hit the nail there. They don't have a bloody clue and they're trying to attack something they've never ever seen before. This just gets my blood boiling.

Also they stereotyped that games are a guy thing only. Another thing to be annoyed about. I gotta give points to Keighley, he didn't get a big chance to talk since he was ganged up on and it was obviously rigged to just say "video games are bad look at Mass Effect, you can see a butt for 2 seconds QUICK PUT THE AO RATING ON THE GAME!" but he still managed to make some good points quickly. Also I hate the host idiot saying that kids can find ways around the security for the consoles. I wonder if the word "password" means anything to her. Finally, stuff the bitch who said "I gotta go with the research here". Technically you could say that research proved the Earth was flat, did it turn out to be flat? No (some people still believe it though, freakin forum on the web about it).

LOL to that pyschologist and LOL to that host, both complete idiots.

For starters as the guy said, you get a tiny bit of alien side boob and a bit of ass. This game is in no way aimed at being a sexual game, it is just trying to be realistic.

Another thing, saying about sex in games, oh *bleep*ing please, sex has been used in adverts for years and years, yet people have the audacity to slate a game that has some incredibly softcore sex in there.

Ive literally seen more sexual content in adverts then that game, what a joke. Pyschologist, did you buy your degree?, you fail.

The fact they didnt even let the guy speak is another laughable matter, its like a child going "What was that? your gay? hahahahah yea thought so" then putting music on to drown out the other guy.

If Fox thought that the interview was going to make Mass Effect look bad, HA the only thing it did was show their ignorance towards the matter, well done muppets.

A lot of that discussion had points that were taken completely out of context or that were full of needless hyperbole. There were even some irrelevant details criticised and then attributed to the game, such as age verification on the Mass Effect website. The psychologist presented some sound points, but why have a video gaming expert on the show if you're going to ignore him?

Kudos to FOX, though, for at least admitting that the responsibility lies entirely with the parent, regardless of what new technology is made available.

I love age verification websites. My birthday is always 1/1/1900. They never complain that a 108 year old man is looking at their content =)

I was watching Fox when this came on. I wanted to punch every one of those people through the TV screen.

'Luke Skywalker meets Debbie does Dallas'? How can this guy be allowed to make such a huge exaggeration? It's one of the most idiotic statements I've ever heard.

I watch Fox News all the time, but believe me when I say I'm skipping the 'Live Desk' from now on. It's hard to take someone seriously after they've just told you a split second of bare arse in a 30 hour long videogame is the SAME THING as hardcore porn.

I only wish I had an email address to complain to. Not that it'd do any use.

The 'entertainment' side of news has always been this way to me. I'd rather just read the papers now, as the TV seems to be trying too hard to get a wider audiences attention...like this.

They aren't even worth correcting. Keighley was fairly unlucky, I hope people realise he was arguing well, he just never stood a chance.

Two second clips of virtual alien chics is all I need for sexual satisfaction. I don't even understand why real women exist. >_>

"A study shows that kids dont know the diffrence between real life and games"........... WTF!? Children arent that stupid! Of COURSE they can tell whats a game and whats not! Thats completely ridiculous! That so called "study" has absolutly no basis of fact at all what-so-ever. Also, Mass Effect has and alien chick in it for about 2 minutes of gameplay, not even a nipple is shown! DID THEY EVEN HEAR OF GOD OF WAR!? That game had boobs in it, nipples and all and they dont care, but a side boob, and little bit of alien ass and they get their panties up in a bunch!? WTF!?!?!?!

The host is an idiot, the psychologist is a bitch who needs to check her facts, the guy got 30 seconds of speaking time in the whole segment. Besides the last guy on the panel, nobody seemed to have any sense outside of the teleprompter. I can guarantee that the hosts gaming experience has gone as far as Wii Sports.

I was reading these comments and thought everybody was overreacting, but after watching it they made a lot more sense.

AO ratings is for Full frontal nudity, not side nudity that lasts for a few seconds, and games like Manhunt 2. Good thing i don't watch this part of Fox, not that i like watching it, but the idiots are on at that time.

Anyway Once again education fails. Screw the studies, play the game, and educate your self. Cause thats where you can really see who's right or wrong.
