High Voltage Software is aiming to bring a new face to the Nintendo Wii's gaming format and hope that they can introduce the graphical qualities that both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are achieving with there new engine, Quantun3. The main features that are being applied to this engine evolve the use of advanced graphical features, including better dynamic bump mapping, light effects, glossing and many, many more.
The first game they are going to be releasing for this Nintendo Wii with this engine is a first person shooter called "The Conduit" and if you are interested more, just below is the tech demo they released for the game idolising the new details they have focused on.
Quantum3 engine claims to be the most powerful in the industry.
High Voltage Software is hoping to change the face of Wii video games, with its new Quantum3 engine, which is claimed to enable Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 visuals on the tiny Wii console.
Quantum3 is the result of 15 years development experience and enables developers to make use of advanced graphical features, including better dynamic bump mapping, light effects, glossing and other visual improvements. Additionally, Quantum3 uses a 16 TEV stage material pipeline that can blend up to 8 separate texture sources.
The engine also uses advanced processing techniques to make gameplay smoother, examples including seamless resource streaming, projected shadows, morphing and much more.
"The Wii platform is capable of a lot more than what consumers have seen so far. We're hoping to raise a new bar," said High Voltage Software CEO Kerry Ganofsky.
The first title from High Voltage to use the new Quantum3 engine is first-person shooter The Conduit. The developer is aiming to create a game that looks like an Xbox 360 and PS3 game. You can decide for yourself if the new engine is up to the task by checking the tech demo here.

Now we need developers to stop using old PS2 graphic engines, and instead use this engine. (Quantum3)
(btw, YouTube degraded the quality of this video, it looks even better in high quality)
Anyway, I really hope they release gameplay footage of The Conduit soon. The Conduit is running on this engine, and I'm curious to see how good this game will look compared to other Wii games.
Yea, the graphics are good, I guess, but it immediately struck me as a God of War II scene on PlayStation 2. I don't see what the big deal is.
Of course, it's not 360/PS3 standards, but still.
Let's say someone says that Gears of War looks only slightly better than Star Wars Rogue Squadron II, since they both use bump-mapping. Would that be seen as an intelligent observation, or simply fanboyism? Because honestly, that's exactly what I'm seeing here.
I'm not saying that people should barrage his post with thumbs-down, because again, I don't really care. However, it is simply a fact that the tech demo is well beyond what the PSP can accomplish. Not up to PS3/360 standards, but certainly out of the PSP's league. I suppose Youtube may have messed up the quality of the original trailer, though.
Again, some of it doesn't show in the video except close-up, but considering videos rarely do a game justice, that shouldn't be an issue when on-screen.
